Sleeping in my car along the side of I-10 in west Texas.  Sleeping in the car was better than sliding in the car.

I'd hoped to make it home that night, but an ice storm had other ideas.  After doing a pretty scary skid, I decided to pull over for the night.  We had camped earlier in the week, so had sleeping bags to stay warm.

It was a little cramped with 5 people in a pick-up truck, but it was also kind of interesting to be out all night like that.  If I hadn't had the sleeping bags, I would have continued with the drive - albeit very slowly.  When we got started this morning, we saw at least a dozen cars and semis that have gone off the highway.  Like you said, we were very fortunate to have the sleeping bags so that I didn't have to continue driving.

 

Fortunately, all turned out well, so the experience will make for good stories.  The snow and wind will get fiercer each time.

What a shame!! Not much fun being stuck in a truck all night.  Very glad you are safe and well. 

Have only slept in a car all night with 3 more adults but it was summer. Very uncomfortable.  Could not get a B&B.

 

We still haven't had any snow in Aberdeen this winter.

Ooh, that ice storm sounds perfectly horrible, Bads!  So glad you were able to pull over safely but, even so, I'd have been paranoid of other cars colliding into me at the side of the road, so there'd have been no sleeping for me all night!  Glad you all made it out in one piece!

That was a concern when I first pulled over (even with the flashers on).  But once 2-3 more vehicles were parked behind me, I didn't worry about it.
