Man if anyone were to tell me Elliott Smith would be my favorite artist 5 years ago, I'd laugh in their face and probably slap the shit out of them for suggesting that I'd even listen to that style of music.

 

I used to only listen to rap(I'm from Houston, there's a huge southern rap culture here). Non-mainstream rap actually isn't that bad, I just don't listen to it much anymore, I guess it was a phase I went through in my later teen's/early 20's.

 

Now I listen to primarily Elliott Smith, he was a fucking genius.

"A fond farewell" is one of his best songs, but one of his most depressing ones as well. He died in 2003 not too long after making it. Glad you like it, though.
