It is the shortened name for a Caterpillar D-8 Bulldozer for earthmoving.  My Dad had one and that's what they were called back then.  It took me awhile last night, when I could have been sleeping, to even remember what a D8 even was!  Finally is came to me.

 

(Have you ever noticed that when a person has to explain their answer in a word game it is usually dubious!  )

Oh, about the D8.  I wondered if it was just me who knew that bulldozer by that name so I Googled it and it seemed right.  Then I asked my husband what is a D8?  He looked at me rather strangely wondering why I would ask but immediately said, "A Caterpillar.".  It might be a U. S. name for it and that is why I thought an explanation might be good for you.

The D River is in Lincoln City, Oregon, United States.  It was listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's shortest river at 440 feet.  It is only 120 feet at high tide!  (per Wikipedia)  No wonder it has such a short name! 

 

This is pretty much the whole length of the river you see going across the beach to the ocean!
