I think that depends on how you feel, esty. Some have found it's very stressful, while others have found a new sense of mastery.

How do you feel about traveling right now?

I think it's different for everyone esty. Personally, when I was in a wave (and sometimes still am) I would never have traveled.

Even though travel was quite stressful for me, I still did it.  Once I got to my destination I'd have a "second wind" and usually could handle it well.  It got me out of myself and out of my obsessions about symptoms.  So yes, it worked for me.

I'm pretty good with traveling as long as I watch carefully what I eat.  I have to plan ahead for meals and snacks because Whoopers and Big Mac's can send me into horrid waves.

I travelled while in tolerance and during withdrawal.  During the acute phase I didn't travel though, it would have been too difficult.  During my recovery I travelled by plane 5 times and each time I did better than I expected even though I was symptomatic. I always took my favorite comfort items such as pillow, Ipod, books, snacks.  I remember my first trip to see my grandbaby. I had a pretty bad case of benzo flu.  Once I got to my destination and had the baby in my arms, many of the symptoms just floated away.  That was an amazing kind of distraction.

Hi Etsy,

When I was tapering we didn't go anywhere really, maybe a couple of short road trips but about 8 months off we did a nice trip into the Kootenay Lake region of B.C. and spent a couple of days out there. It was a nice distraction.

Ever since then I've slowly been spreading my wings and my comfort zone is growing bigger. It takes me a day or two to settle in once we get to our destination but I always end up having a very good time and usually don't want to leave.

I hope you have a lovely time wherever you're going!

Be sure and take along something familiar, some little reminder of home, some bit of your daily routine.
