This ones for Carol (Gedecca)

Here is my old Blue Cattle, 'Jessica' who lived to the age of 17, I had her from the time I turned 16 (as a Birthday present) until I was almost 33, she was the sweetest, smartest dog I have owned and in fact saved one of my boys from being bitten by a red belly black snake by chasing it in to a river and then launching herself into the fast moving water, chasing it down to the ravine, at this time she was about 13 and starting to really feel the arthritis, we all ran along the side of the river, calling for her to come out, at one stage she went under for about 1 minute, we couldn't see her, so consequently I launched myself into the river and told the kids to run and get Dad, soon as I jumped in, up popped her head and I managed to drag her to the bank, but she was literally exhausted.  It was without doubt the saddest day of my life when I had to make the decision to let her leave this world with her dignity intact, her arthritis became so bad she couldn't stand and had started to mess herself unable to get up, there was no way I was letting a proud old gal go like that.  I did what I knew I had to do, I held her in my arms, stroked her and told her to wait for me at the Bridge, very sadly, it took quite some time for her to 'pant down and draw her last breath'.  The vet had 4 attempts at finding a vein on her and could not do so, as she had such terrible 'thickening' of the arteries, he even tried her neck, but to no avail, so in the end he had to 'overdose' her, it was the most gut wrenching thing I've had to do in my life and I'll take that image with me to my grave.  The Vet assured me that she wouldn't have felt any pain, but to this day I am not so sure as she was whimpering and stayed focused on my eyes the whole time.  Jessica had a beautiful life and was there for so many important life events; My engagement, My Wedding, The Births of my children and I guess in a sense seeing me make the transition from young girl to woman.

It has been many years since she left us, however, I often feel her 'presence' around me and when I last had my 'cards read' was told that there was a 'working dog' sitting next to me by my left leg.  I like to believe that.

This photo was taken about 1 month before she rapidly declined, yes she was fat as mud, but in human years she was 94 years old.

I love you Jessica and always will.  Even though I love the Blue Cattles, I will never own another one, as they could never live up to my darling old girl.

So interestingly enough, I rescue the 'mutts' and the 'undesirables', yet my Mother is a 'die hard' line breeder.  Her heart breed are Rough Collies;  Here's a couple of shots of her ' bluebloods'...  I often tease her that all breeds need some 'hybrid vigour' to thrive!  She also has a 3 year old bitch, which I'll post up later, she is 'rare' being a 'Blue Merle'. >:D

Although, your rescued dogs are just as beautiful inside and outward.  They sure do have a story to tell in their eyes.  They seem to also show a deep emotion almost like they appreciate what you did for them.    :smitten: :smitten:

They are all so happy!  ;D

Plesae post all you want.  You seem to be the heart of the doggy thread.  I simply created an environment on the forum for us to share doggy things on.  The thread would be only half of one without you, Staffy,.. and your lovely dogs and amazong dog stories.  It seems to me like we all enjoy all of your posts.  Please don't feel like that.  I mean that.

Much Love-  :smitten:

I just wanted to say that your dogs for sure seem to have a story to tell indeed.  Your mother's prebreads are beautiful  indeed but your dogs have something special that shows in thier peronalities.  They seem to be emminating the Love you show to them back to you.  I can see that very clearly in all of your rescued dog pictures.  That is somethign very special.  It is almost as if they know you helped them and it sure shows in their faces.

Sky,

That's really very insightful of you, when I rescue these dogs they come to me in a mess and I mean a real mess, many are totally 'shut down', fear aggressive, huge dominance issues and much more, sometimes it takes months for a 'broken' dog to regain enough trust to 'show' you their true spirit.    Rehab can be challenging, sometimes it's one step forwards, two steps backwards and you must always be a firm Alpha to avoid 'pack problems'.  I've posted heaps of photos of Jacka on here, as he is today, (strong and beautiful),  but here is a shot of how he came to me ( I think I mentioned he had severe testicular cancer, corneal ulcers in both eyes, and in a pretty bad way (not that you would know it today).  Here's a picture of how he arrived after surgery.  Before you ask, yes that is a button sewn into his eye to keep it closed for healing to happen, dogs have a third eyelid and they stitch that down to assist with protection.

Can you believe this is the smiling dog in the photos above?

*Apologies to anyone who finds this image disturbing, but it's what I deal with week in, week out - it's rescue and rehab. It is without doubt my lifelong passion, next to photography.

I think this let's us all see how far anyone, or anything can come with a little TLC and know how.  I figure if these broken souls can come back from the brink, so can we.  I look to my pack for strength on a daily basis.  Rescues do know that they have been given a second chance and they pay that back threefold.

Glad to make you happy Skyzone.

As you know we had a very devastating earthquake here in Japan on March 11th 2011, we got Nina on the March 17th of that year. Although we weren't affected that much by the quake, it was truly a frightening time for all of us. Nina became as source of relief for my neighbours who would visit several time a day to play with her and de stress, she helped us get through the hard times. She is such a cutie, clever and my constant companion. We are lucky to have each other! :smitten: :smitten:

My mother is from Okinawa,. Naha.  She met my dad there and they got married and moved to the states.  I have been to Japan a few times and it is really really nice.  My favorite place on earth thus far.  I want to go to the holy land but it might be too dangerous  :-\ .  It must be nice living there in Japan.  The people are so nice there.
