Here's another picture of Nina taken this afternoon, she is soaked and just got back in after playing in the snow. She loves the snow, she  runs and jumps and scoops it up with her snout.

Awww Nina, seeks looks totally 'spent'.  I love how they play in the snow.

Warning - Tear Jerker Story about my First Rescue Dog :'( :'( :'(

Now to share my first rescue boy ever, his name was 'Chance', he had the most terrible start to life a dog could have, he was used as a bait dog at only 9 weeks of age, it's a long and sordid story, but I almost got myself killed getting this poor pup out of the pit he was in.  Finally,  when the police arrived, the thug literally threw the dog at me and split.  I took him to the vet's that night, he had a broken front leg, his eye was hanging out of the socket and he was all but dead :'(, the vet told me to take him home and make him comfortable for his journey to the rainbow bridge, as there was nothing he could do.  At the time my children were only very young, 2 and 4 respectively, we put him in a shoe box filled with tissue paper and made sure he had water and some fresh chicken for 'his journey' back to his maker, we named him 'Chance' as we all felt that we had at least given him some kind of second 'Chance' to experience a kind hand for the first time in his life.  I clearly remember him quivering and weeing himself when touched by my hand for the first time, even though it was a hand of kindness and calm.

As God, Jesus, Budha or whatever deity you believe in had it, the next morning, we woke to a puppy, still very 'broken' but still alive, the next few weeks were very hard, he was just a bundle of nerves and banged up badly.  We went back to the vets the next morning and had his leg splinted and his eyeball stitched back into his socket.  We then commenced him on a very healthy diet, feeding him every 2 hours.  The long story is  Chance lived to the ripe old age of 16, almost 17 to the day I rescued him.

This is Chance in his last few weeks with us, I think his eyes tell a story, that love can conquer all.  Throughout 17 years of love and rehabilitation he was never once able to 'socialise' with other dogs, such had been the ferocity and cruelty that had been imprinted onto him as a pup.  I worked very hard for many years to even have him accept my gals, eventually he did, but I always needed to keep a firm hand and eye on him, he was very damaged, but indeed managed to have a beautiful life, free of fear, neglect and never forced to fight again.

What a cute dog!  The purse in the background does look like a cat!   I don't know if that was intentional or what but it is funny.

Wow, thank you Sky, I partly posted this because I feel that no matter how badly a person or animal has been mistreated, maligned, bullied or just plain had a rough time, that there is always hope for recovery.  Chance is just one of my rescues, I'll post up some other stories as the thread progresses, I don't want to hog it. (Well I do, but I won't).

Hi Staffy + others, I didn't notice the cat bag it's not mine. Are you from Sydney Staffy? Photo is in Lizzy Bay, we live in a suburb near that, but have lived a few places in Sydney including the Inner West. You must live in the Eastern suburbs,or inner city area, very high density now with more apartment blocks going up everywhere. :)

Hi Arafurapearl,

We have lived just about everywhere in Sydney, finally settling in the Hills District, which is great as we have a really big block and heaps of space for the fur kids.  It's only 40 mins to City in mid/heavy traffic so no biggie really.

Amazing how high denisty it is now - indeed.
