My best friend was away last week and I went over twice a day to visit

"Mika"

mika doesn't really care if I visit her during the day or not, but my friend Jane feels better when I do.

it was funny trying to get a picture of her. As soon as I put my phone up to take a picture she would deliberately look away. Then I would move my phone and she would look at me again.

This went on a

Bunch of times. Finally I just kept calling her name and decided to look at me even with my phone to my eye.

I guess she must have some experience with a flash in her eye or something .

From very tiny to very huge!

We were out to dinner on Saturday and another couple there had this dog.

Wow Franca is awesome.  I love the 'Mountains', they are so big, yet so gentle and unassuming.  She looks very happy.

Hi All,

I have been thinking of sharing a couple of photos of our late dog "Happy" as David’s Nina has made me think of him often.  David your photos are great!  Thank you for posting them.  Thanks to all others who have posted their photos here, too!  I have greatly enjoyed stopping by to see them!

Now since there is the photo of the Bernese Mountain dog here, too, I thought I would post Happy's and you can tell me, if you would like, if you think he might be part Mountain Dog.  He was probably part Border Collie, maybe part Australian Shepherd as there are many of both of those breeds in our area.  But was big for those breeds and so we have wondered if he might be part Mountain dog, too, or some other breed.  He was around 80 pounds or so.

I am sorry the photos aren't more clear.  They are all taken through the glass of a patio door as he really disliked cameras and would hide from them as soon as he saw them in my hand!  So I had to get my photos anyway I could!  Part of the snow and wet that looks like it is on Happy was actually on the glass.

He was a stray who came to our home when he was around 9 months old and as we tried to find him a good home... we fell in love.

He stayed with us for 12 1/2 very “Happy” years.

Please don’t feel badly for him to be laying in the snow!

He loved snow and was an inside/outside dog who came in any time he chose to.

And he usually did come in most of the time!!!  He loved being in with "his" cats!

Wow Lilyagain

What a great name for a great dog. Sure looks like he has a lot of border collie in him, he must have been a treasure for you!

Here's another couple of pics taken yesterday of little Nina

Thank you David,

Happy Dog was a real treasure for us.  And I think he was probably a lot border collie but he was so much bigger and heavier boned than the ones in our area.  And he had much longer hair than most of them get here, too.  I always wonder where our strays have come from.  You just long to know each of their stories.  How could someone who was so wonderful get lost and not be sought for.  No one seemed to be missing him.  But maybe he was meant for us.  : )

Nina is certainly beautiful.  What a fun companion she must be for you!  (and you for her, too!)  I love seeing the outdoor photos of her looking so happy.

Have a great weekend!

Love to you and to Nina, too!

Yes Carol!

Happy did have a ton of hair!  He would shed it in the fall going into winter and I could never figure out why that time of year!  I used to joke about him being an Australian Shepherd that never got his seasons right for where we in in the US.  It would be so thick all summer (maybe working as insulation, I think.) and then in the fall I would be brushing bags and bags of hair off of him.  One of our kitties loved his hair!  She would come while I brushed him and roll around on the big clumps of it like it was cat nip!  Crazy animals!

The name did fit him.  We had him for 3 weeks trying to come up with a name that really captured him!  I was singing to him one day a "Happy Dog" song and my hubby hearing me came from another room and said that maybe that was his name... Happy!  It stuck and was just right for him.

Thanks for saying you think he was beautiful!  It is sweet to share his photos here and know that others who love dogs can appreciate him, too.

Thank you Skyzone,

I have enjoyed stopping by to admire the dogs many times!  I look forward to seeing Kiwi!

I wanted to post just two more Happy Dog photos that really show his thick coat around his chest and how very camera shy he was.  You can see him giving me the eye and raising one front paw in protest as I tried to very quickly get the camera up and snap something... anything of him!  He would run immediately!  I am sorry again that the photos aren't clear.  It had to do it so quickly that I often times moved while taking them.

Wow!  Lily ;Your Happy was most beautiful.  I am no dog expert but I think I see the tan color in his eyebrows that the mountain has?  Or is it another dog with the tan eyebrows.  What a great shot with the tulips!

David, These action shots are awesome!  I love them.  I'm thinking if you see a dog/photo contest somewhere enter some of these as they are that good!  They show the joy this dog has for life and the ball.  Oh that we will all feel like this again one day soon.  Thanks for posting them friends.

love

Hi All!

Skyzone ~ Here is another peek at the surrounding area here from my blog if you would like to see it:  http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=24064.msg487192#msg487192  (I am now looking at these photos and thinking that I couldn't see how fuzzy they were while my eyes were so much more Benzo effected.  I am going to have to get a much better camera!  Oh yes!)

David ~ What a wonderful athlete Nina is!  She is so full of grace and beauty!  I can see the joy of life in her.  I think if she could laugh, she would be in those photos!  What a joy to see her in action!  Well, stop action at least!  : )  I agree with Flutterbye that those photos could be in a contest and do well.

Flutterbye ~ Thank you for saying you think Happy was beautiful!  The other breeds that he might have been can also have those pretty tan spots above their eyes.  We even had a tiny 14 pound Terrier that had them, too.  It really doesn't matter what breed he was, I guess, as he was loved for himself.  : )  He looked like he was going to eat that one tulip!  Who knew dogs like to stop and smell the "roses", too!

Wishing you all a great day!

Lily
