Yeah, Hurt is quite brilliant. I remember it even appearing on Top of the Pops - Country never charts over here - or at least, it hadn't done in along time.

 

I'm not fan of Emmylou's music, but thought Deeper Well had something. You tube doesn't have a decent version though. There are to live versions uploaded - both with the very same useless lead guitarist:

I never heard that track before, Colin.  :socool:  I'm not a big lover of country music either, although I love Johnny Cash and I do like the musical collaboration between Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. A good song is a good song, I guess.  :)

Beauty from country music - that would Emmylou Harris! She's still pretty at 60ish - untouched by the scalpel too, I'm sure. Yeah, I don't like Country music either. Jonny Cash was damn cool though.

 

 

I'm a huge fan of Emmylou - such a beautiful clear voice, but... :-)  looking at that photo I'm having a hard time believing she's not been 'altered' a little  ;)  Or at least been massively airbrushed!  BUT.. unlike so many other would-be-has-beens... no need to airbrush that  voice.  She doesn't need the 'pitch perfecter'  :thumbsup:

What about Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Barbara Streisand, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, and Aretha Franklin? They may not all have been considered physically beautiful but they had (have) the voice of angels, in my opinion.

I agree, Kristin. All divas. I think of them all Gladys Knight is my favourite.  :)

Thanks for posting those great photos of all the divas from the past! Man, I am  having a really hard time choosing my favorite. When I  think of Gladys Knight singing "Midnight Train to Georgia", Joni Mitchell crooning "Both Sides Now", or Aretha belting out "Respect", how can one choose?? I feel so blessed to have grown up hearing these women sing. I can't tell you how many times I have sung these songs in the shower!
