How to get off Ambien painlessly

Recommended Posts

I’ve been on Ambien for a couple weeks. Lots of stress & insomnia in my life lately. Im already starting to notice what I’d call interdose withdrawal sxs. My psych Dr thinks I’m crazy but we all know how some psych docs think. Ambien has a 2hr half life +/-  . Typically drugs are out of your system in 5 half lives. So in Ambiens case about 10 hours or so  it’s all out of your system by then depending on your rate of metabolism. I took a dose (10mg) last night and slept 8 hours. Woke up feeling rested. But as the day wore on I started getting that creepy crawly anxious feeling. A little panicky in fact. It’s been this way for the past 3-4 days. I think that is  due to inter dose  withdrawal sxs much like people get with short 1/2 life benzos like Xanax, which actually happened to me some years back. I’m thinking I need to taper it & I either request a liquid form of Ambien and taper that slowly or I request an equivalent dose of liquid valium and taper that. I guess I think the liquid Valium is the better bet due to its long 1/2 life because if I’m getting interpose WD sxs with 10mg I’ll get them with 9,8,7 etc due to , again, it’s short 1/2 life.
Has anyone here tapered Ambien in this way. Also I can’t find what an equivalent dose of Valium would be per milligram of Ambien. If Anyone here has some knowledge on this I’d sincerely appreciate hearing from you
