Anyone else sometimes get weird vision disturbance late at night?

Hey buddies, just wondering if others get weird visual disturbance at night.

In my case I get it at night when getting up to go to the toilet - I get like a “shutter” vision. So when I blink once, it looks like I’ve blinked twice - so my vision looks like a shutter on a camera.

Basically I’m after symptom reassurance, thank you. 🙏

Oh yes, so much vision and brain stuff…. It’s neurological stuff but always get things checked out if it persists to make sure it’s not anything else and eye dr takes a look. Mine referred me to a neuro ophthalmologist who confirmed these meds can affect the cranial nerves that affect so much- double vision, visual snow , blurred vision, blinking lights, aura migraines, camera flashing light with eyes closed, extreme dry eyes. etc. is what I’ve had throughout eye wise. It’s all med stuff from what my specialists told me and corrects over time.

Yes, I had lots of that. It was the worst for me in weird lighting or if I got up in the middle of the night. I notice it a lot when I walk around sunset. It’s called pallinopsia. Common in ssri and benzo WD.

Ah thanks for the information, I shall eventually ask to see a neuro-ophthalmologist! Can an optometrist refer? Also has yours got better overtime?

Oh wow, thank you. Has yours gone away now? What did you WD off if you don’t mind me asking?

I am WDing off both Valium and Prozac unfortunately. I had a kindling (or just plain old adverse reaction) to going back on Prozac, and then was in the hospital where the gave me Valium again when I’d withdrawn off years ago, great. But anyway, onwards and upwards. I’m 65 days of Prozac, and about 9 days off low dose Valium.

I was on SSRIs for 25 years (still on 2.8mg Zoloft and slooooowly tapering.) I came off of them 3 times in a matter of months over the 20 years, and went back on within 3 months.

I took clonaz for about 6-7 years before I realized my weird visual stuff was from them. Floaty boat, zappy vision, dizzy spells, depth perception way off, flashes and floaters, missing parts of vision (with weird brown spots), etc. Before I started tapering clonaz I felt like things were flying at my face, I’d lay in bed and flench because it felt like stuff was about to hit me. So odd.
I tapered the benzo for 3 years total, it was very rough. I foolishly alternated tapering ssri and benzo for the first year. Very rough.
Eventually I held Zoloft at 6.5mg and came off of the benzo using Valium and a microtaper. Waves were always related to vision, vertigo, depth perception, floor uneven, etc. I think it did a number on my vestibular system.
I’m off 20 months now and it’s def getting better. Still that shuttery vision if I’m super tired, or in low light, or high stress. It is getting better, it used to be nearly constant.
Now it’s a few times a month for a few days typically (lines up with interestingly with hormones).
