Breathing and sleep

Recommended Posts

[Bu...]

Last couple of nights in the early morning sleep was be felt like I couldn’t breathe and had to wake myself up. Other times it felt like my chest was heavy and it was an effort to breathe and If I were to fall asleep I would suffocate.

breathing was normal at the beginning of the night

i wa perfectly calm before it happened so it’s not a panic attack. I only get upset after it kept happening

I have never had any lung or breathing problems in the past, and breathing feels fine now.

could this be a withdrawal symptom? Anyone else experience it?

I get these symptoms as well and it’s currently what I’m dealing with as I type this. Night time it comes on for me. How long have you been off benzo’s? My breathing is not normal yet and at night I get like a bubbling electricity on my heart. My breathing gets labored and like my lungs only fill to 80%. If it helps I really feel like these are my last symptoms and are nothing compared to what I went through initially. I have had every test done as well and nothing has come back. Hopefully it gets better, and hearing a shared experience helps. God bless and hope it leaves your body soon.

Thanks for your reply

Im 2months post zopiclone CT after 3.5 weeks use

your description of your lungs only filling to eighty percent is exactly how I feel. The electricity feeling also happened to me once, waking me up.
do you also get woken by a choking feeling?
Are you finding anything that helps?

ive had all sorts of awful symptoms including akathisia which are extra hard to deal with considering I have fatigue with long covid that gets worse after any type of exercise.

what about you? How long have you been in withdrawal?

thanks for the help

I have been off benzo’s for 11 months. The only thing I think I can compare it to is maybe having acid reflux times 1 MILLION. Nothing really helps other than relaxing and not forcing yourself to lay and sleep. Just put on some tv and sit up. It passes. The first 8 months I would say were a hell that you can’t describe. I literally felt like my brain was on fire and swollen and had brain cancer. Anyhow. You’ll be good.

I missed the choking part sorry, yes I would get the same electric feeling into my throat as well. In my first few months I lost my voice a few times and couldn’t eat. That passed.

I had a cardiology appointment today -  he said the breathing problem could be due to POTS and has referred me to a sleep specialist. I

not holding out much hope of my magic cures, and a scared to take any meds

Are you asleep when this happens?  Like in a deep sleep then you wake up feeling like you cannot breath and you shake yourself awake?

If this is the case, this sounds like sleep paralysis.

Hello @[br...], welcome to BenzoBuddies,

What a horrible experience, it sounds like a nightmare I've had but you were awake and feeling this, I'm so sorry!

If you'd care to share your story and how you ended up here, we'd be very interested in hearing it, if so, please start a thread of your own so we can get to know you.
