Do we heal while we taper or only after ?

Recommended Posts

My rumination of the day is - while i embark on long journey of tapering (still holding at 2.5 Valium right now after a 50% cut in the beginning of the month from Ativan .5 to .25)… are my gaba receptors actually healing or is the Valium I take every day preventing that ? Will I only heal at the end of the taper and will it be so prolonged because Valium has such a long half life ?

Thoughts ? Any science behind any of what we are doing ?  I know CT is not the way - just searching for light.

Yes, you recover as you taper. The reason we taper is for your brain to adjust to a lower dose of benzos. With each cut you make your brain slowly adapts to less and less benzodiazepines in your system. This is less disruptive to your system than a cold turkey and should allow you to remain functional. Your final stretch of recovery begins when you take no more benzos at all.
