Going to the dentist! HELP!!

Recommended Posts

So I need to go to the dentist to do something about a broken tooth. I can't go there unless they give me benzos. I'm stuck! What can I do?!

Stuff like: "Oh just breath! You're going to be fine!" won't help!

I can't go there without benzos. It's just that simple. Thoughts?

The Ashton Manual says not to fear one off doses for medical procedures. I'm not sure if anyone here has any experience of that?

So you can take a little bit here and there?

I haven't done it myself. I'm wondering if anyone else has who can advise. I'm trying to avoid it personally.

its fine to do and I would be more concerned letting those things fester than having them sorted out.

Likely how you are feeling now will make it challenging but a little numbing agent wont hurt you.

Also your dentist will likely be very understanding if you mention you are recovering from medication. will likely ask which one to be sure its not an issue.

the hardest part about the dentist for me was remembering how I acted there when feeling better a year later. I tried to convince mine to give me a set of white gold crowns.

i mean the dental work is fine. benzos are not.

Ask for Propofol instead of a benzo and Lidocaine instead of Novocain.

And, yes, breathe-you’ll be fine.

@NO, you can't take a little bit here and there! A one time exception may be different, but that's only one time. A little bit here and there WILL most likely lead to reinstatement. Then you get to go through this pain and suffering all over again. Is that what you want? My symptoms were strong when I went to the dentist several times for dental work. I found being distracted by the dental work helped lessen my symptoms. The only thing that was a challenge was the akathasia in my legs. I kept moving them the entire time and apologized to the dentist. He didn't care. Everything went fine.

"WILL most likely....". You're talking like you know me. I have a little something called discipline in me. That's why I myself decided to quit them and I did it all on my own, without anyones help.

“Laughing gas” - nitrous oxide. It’s very typical in dental treatments. They put a mask type apparatus over your nose that administers the nitrous during the procedure. It will make you feel a little out of it but as soon as they are done and remove it, the nitrous leaves your system and you return to normal. I’m not sure where you are located. I’m in the US and pretty much every dentist I’ve heard of here will let you opt for that.

Is it ok to use even though I'm taking betablockers and BP-meds?

Did you read my post? I had dental surgery last winter and spoke with BIC on how to proceed.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what BIC is.

I’m not a medical professional but from what I can see online, there are no contraindications. I’ve never heard of anyone having an issue with it. But if you tell your dentist all of the medications you are on, they should be able to tell you.

My comment was "WILL most likely" rather than say "you will". I was only trying to help based on your saying "I can't go there unless they give me benzos" and "take a little bit here and there" Please don't read any more into it.

Is that an American thing? I've never heard of it. Then again I'm Swedish.

No. Not if you want to heal. Or don't think so.

Why do you need benzos to go to the dentist??

It’s a leading organization in the US for all things benzo.

I’ve given you the strongest evidence based information you can get .

@[Ma...] I’m puzzled.  The Benzodiazepine Information Coalition is an awareness and advocacy organization.  It does not provide direct support to individuals.  Per its website:

”We can not help individuals with specific cessation questions or support and do not answer these questions.”

Can you clarify?  Perhaps you meant to write you found a resource on the BIC website?

@[Li...] I contacted them on Instagram with my question about dental surgery and they replied.
