Can other prescription meds trigger withdrawal after prolonged cessation of benzos?

I’ve been completely off benzos for a bit over a year, and now feel like I’m back in withdrawal after taking famotidine (Pepcid) a few times. I was prescribed it for a small hiatal hernia and acid reflux, because my doctor didn’t want me on PPIs long term.

I tried Pepcid a few times after first getting prescribed and stopped taking it because it gave me bad insomnia, but last week I took it a few days in a row and now am feeling like I’m back in full blown withdrawal. I have sensitivity to light, terrible insomnia, twitchiness, high general anxiety levels, and more. The concerning thing is that I only took it for two days and the effects seem to be worse three days out than they were the days I took them. I’m definitely never taking it again. I sleep very soundly now when I’m not on Pepcid, and the insomnia is so pronounced that I am certain it’s not in my head.

After doing research, it seems like a small amount of people experience bad psychological and neurological effects from the medication, and I’m wondering if my post-benzo recovery status may have made me susceptible. I’m also wondering what I can do to alleviate these symptoms. Does anyone have experience with this?
