Liquid valium taper

Recommended Posts

[Ja...]

Good morning all,

I'm new to this site, I'm looking for some help and guidance on liquid tapers please.

I've been taking 10mg of valium at night for the last 10 years to help with sleep, I didn't realise how much my body was dependent on benzos until I went on a long holiday and experienced a panic attack, at the time I had no idea that it was valium withdrawl,

A little while after, I completely ran out of my valium and thought what the hell I'm gonna stop taking these, a week or so after my last dose I started getting dizzy, clamy, panic attacks, sever depersonalization and so many more symptoms as you have all experienced - I went 4 months cold turkey from that point and all I can say it was the worst time of my life, horrific!...

I ended up taking valium again to stop the pain - I was a complete mess I couldn't work, watch tv or read a book.

I have tried a few attempts to taper off these but everytime I do I get severe withdrawl symptoms i just seems impossible.

I recently found out about water tapers, has anyone got any successful stories on getting off this poison using a liquid taper?

All suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks

J

Hello @[Ja...]. Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

Yes, stopping cold turkey from benzodiazepines is never a good idea. It is unsurprising that you reacted so badly and for such a long time.

What dose pills do you use? And you take whole dose (10mg) at night - yes?

Hi Colin thanks for your reply,

Yes I take a whole 10mg of diazepam in the evening every night just before bed, I can't stress enough how desperate I am to find a solution to get off of these, as I'm sure you all know this is hell!

Thanks

J

Hello and welcome to Benzobuddies, @[Ja...].  Are you in the US?  Do you have a supportive prescriber?  If so, a 1mg/mL oral diazepam solution is available.  Many members have used this to taper successfully.

Hi @[Ja...].

As @[Li...] suggested, you might obtain the 1mg/ml diazepam solution.

Alternatively - if you are using 10mg pills - you might ask your doctor to instead prescribe 2mg pills. These will allow you to reduce your dose much more slowly, and these pills might be split in half (or, perhaps, even quarters) to allow for much smaller reductions to your dose. This is what most people do when tapering off Valium (diazepam).
