Has anyone recovered from lymphedema, I’m 4 months post withdrawal and it isn’t getting any better.

Recommended Posts

I have been experiencing terrible edema, heaviness and pain in both legs since withdrawal. I keep hoping it will get better or go away. The only thing that makes it any better is walking—I have to walk every day or else my legs get so swollen and heavy and inflamed. I’ve also been exhausted and I think I have muscle weakness from the edema. I’ve seen every kind of doctor and no one can figure out what is wrong with me-my heart, kidneys, liver etc are all fine. Please I hope someone has had this and has recovered. My prayers to all of you suffering with this.

Hi again, @[...]. Sorry, I've been busy. I think it is unlikely that your edema is withdrawal related, but members have suffered all manner of problems which resolved themselves after they recovered from other (more usual) withdrawal symptoms. So I would not rule it out. I would encourage you to keep seeking answers and see more doctors.

Dear Xena, I have it too and it came with withdrawal! Such a relief to see someone else with it! My legs are twice the size they were, often very mottled and very very very heavy to move around. It has been frightening me so much. My face is also swollen

Just a general word of caution - we should not assume that any of our symptoms are the result of benzodiazepine use or withdrawal. And this is especially true if the symptom is unusual. It is sensible to seek advice from our doctor to rule out other causes.

True, this does not sound like a benzo w/d SX to me. I would definitely have other things medically ruled out.

I had this but it was the result of taking another medication to help with withdrawal.  Are you taking any other medications?

You have to get checked out by a doctor.  This is a symptom you cannot ignore.

Having said that if someone told me they had turned blue because of

withdrawal I would believe it.

I’m off all medications and no other reason for the edema. I’ve been to all the specialists-cardiologists, vascular doctors, worked up for kidney/liver/heart/autoimmune causes and no one knows why. I still have this problem today.

Hi pickle. I’m sorry you are going through this too! My legs are both swollen and painful. I’ve done every test but nothing comes back positive. The only thing that helps me is stretching and exercise but it is difficult because my legs are so heavy and painful. I also wear compression everyday—I hate it. I also am generally exhausted. I really wish you heal and feel better. I’ll let you know if anything helps me.

If your heart is struggling at all these things often happen. lets call it indirectly related to WD and likely a good thing to see GP about. they are ok plumbers.

I am not talkative today so just the basic… my answer to the title specific question is yes.

Yes, but have you been diagnosed with lymphedema? I get keeping looking for causes and correlations and it’s absolutely correct, but what about the treatment?

I ask this because when I found myself in that situation (different and very evident cause) guidelines prescribed to start as soon as possible dedicated massages provided by the hospital and thick elastic bandages applied by specialists very often. To use specific topical meds. After that to wear an elastic compression tutor, especially sewed on my measures for as long I was able to. I was told that my limb was going to never be too much functional forever and to not use it too much… forever, but (under a specialist doctor’s advice, given out of records, and medical okay) I got to climb mountains and to rescue people on there with that same limb and I would have never dared to do so if I only remotely sensed that it was going to cause a problem for myself or others.

so, what I am asking is: have you looked into the treatments for this diagnosi and asked your doctors if they are applicable in your case?

Because if so they are time sensitive to start (meaning the sooner the better)
