Severe sciatic pain

Recommended Posts

I have developed severe sciatic pain in both legs and am barely able to walk. I cannot take pain relievers, relying primarily on heat. Trying to move and stretch, both very painful.

Wondering if anyone has used a tens unit and if it’s helped or worsened the situation and effect on wd symptoms?

Also been using a bilateral vibrating device (touch points) for anxiety, which has been helpful, but now wondering if the vibrations are contributing to the pain?

Any thoughts helpful.
Thank you!

Hi Cyndi, im sorry you have this,  I have sciatica and also have trouble walking due to numbness and pain.

I used a tens unit for yrs but since withdrawal I've not been able to use it. It seems to stir up the nerve pain instead of providing relief. The vibrating from the tens also gives me more anxiety.

Heat also stirs up pain for me. Ice seems to help some but I can't stand the hard cold pack on my back or hips. I have soft packs but they get warm too fast.

I've found that moving  as much as possible helps but finding a balance is difficult. I sit alot, that's not good either. I walk as much as I can to keep from getting stiff. When I do exposure therapy at stores etc, I feel it the next day but know I have to keep moving.

Sciatica is so painful. I think the tension makes everything worse including this.

So stretching seems to help. It might not seem like its doing anything, but for me, it helps to relieve some of the stiffness and tension in the lower body some.

We're going to have tension and pain either way I suppose but at least for me it helps to stretch and move.

I hope the tens help you and your able to keep moving as much as possible.

Take care

Ns
