I have internal akathisia from tapering paxil.

Had anyone experience antidepressant induced akathisia?? And any thing which gave you relief from internal akathisia??

I know exactly what you mean by the term ‘internal akathisia’.   Please be reassured that is a temporary reaction to drug withdrawal, which will eventually fade completely.  Mine took 6 months to go away, but go away it did.   And yes, antidepressants can cause it.

I forgot to say - the only thing you can do, really, is make yourself as comfortable as you can while you wait.

Hey, yes, I'm unsure whether mine came from benzo wd, ad wd, or both, but rest assured it does get better.. be careful with trying treatments willy nilly and taking action to fix it, I just made mine worse doing that.  No big drug changes, and if you HAVE to add a support drug pick one and stick to it, don't jump around.  Hang in there ❤️

@[So...] Thanks alot buddie🙏

I am in half way of my tapering, i just stick to my paxil, which i taper, colanzepam 0.5mg. I do not taking anything for akathisia.once i try propanolol but it aggaravate my akathisia.i am not visiting my doctor because i know he put me on more drugs.

@[So...] how your akathisia heal??

My journey is very painfull. I share with you, may be your experience from your journey prove helpfull for me

1- july 2023 i took prozac/olanzapine within three days i became suicidal due to restlessness, i don't know it was akathisia or activation syndrome or adverse reaction.

2- after few days my dr prescribed me sertalline and olanzapine, everything was fine untill 25 days then panic attack starts and severe ocd i quit cold turkey, my biggest mistake, then hell start, nocturnal severe panic attack starts, my eyes had opened with terror and restlessness highly suicidal and hot flashes  which last till evening

Then dr prescribe lexapro 5mg, which hit like blast, increases my restlessness ,panic, highly suicidal. During this time no benzo was helping me

15 august 2023=>Then i change psychiatrist, he prescriped me paxil and kolonopin .

With in two days i was completely  fine, then after next three days i feel weired sensations inside my body,as someone pour poison in my body, and vibrations,  which make me restless physically, i had no terror nor other mental symptom .

I told my psychiatrist about my condition, he called it anxiety, i was continously taking paxil with these sufferings, my doctor continuously gaslight these symptoms. After four months of these sufferings, i googled and knew that it was internal akathisia Without terror. I told my psychiatricist that i am suffering akathisia,he again deny it and prescribe me lamictal and seroquel. And asked me to take paxil alternate day for a month ,then quit

After that i never visit my psychiatrist and start tapering, when i reach 3mg from 12mg agitation become little bit fade, then i join SA, i found that i did big mistake my cutting coated pill, immediately i switch to immediate release for further tapering, at 3mg cutting became difficult, then i decided to switch at paxil ir home-made solution, now today is my 23rd day of paxil solution, i develop constant terror and internal vibrations kolonopin does not helping  , which sometime for few hours  become fade, due these sufferings now i am facing cptsd

Have you had tried mirtazapine???

I am very confused should i try something or not for severe depression, for which i had started these medications.

Oh wow I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds similar to a lot of people's stories unfortunetly but it will also end like theirs did.

It sounds like your body is not compatible with psych meds, I'd say you 100% need to taper off and then deal with your depression in non drug ways.

I did try mirtazapine, that was one of my big mistakes going into the psych ward and getting put on it a year ago, tapering it made my aka explode I am almost off of it now though.

I would suggest microtapering a liquid compound everyday, once I started that my symptoms got much better after awhile.

I am currently on 1mg and start feeling terror intense untill evening, i am afraid when i taper further, my akathisia will become worse.

I decide to wait further atleast three months  at 1mg for stability.

What do you think??

I think that's totally fine!  Maybe in the meantime try to read up on microtapering, you can make progress while going very slowly similar to a hold.  I'm microtapering my mirtazapine.

Hi, my akathisia has been pretty mild finally, thankfully.  I'm doing way better mentally but it still acts up physically at times.  Not as bad though.  And I think mine was mainly from do many drug changes and adding drugs in, not the drug itself so tapering hasn't effected it much.

@[So...] Very glad to hear about you.

in previous six months, i was polydruged, from one drug to another And ended up with akathisia.

I totally get it @[Ra...] the same thing happened to me, I was put on 5 different drugs!! That's why I like to reach out to people like you not to give up... it will take me almost 2 years but i am going to be off every single one pretty soon!  I'm down to 2 drugs now and feeling better.. there is hope!  I know it's really painful, but if you can start tapering at your own pace that you can handle eventually you can be off too!  Id reccomend starting with the moat problomatic drug for your aka.  And if you get rid of the offending med you can even start to heal while on other drugs.  Hugs 🫂
