Brand Change Causing Paradoxical Response/can alcohol used to print brand name on a capsule cause issues?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced a paradoxical response after changing brands? And, can alcohol used to imprint name on capsule cause reaction?

I am polydrugged - brand was switched on my Lyrica, not K.  I am tapering K and had been stable. I’ve had multiple generic switches from brand Lyrica. These have not only  thrown me into L wd but I’ve started having paradoxical responses to my other meds including K.  I am trying to get back on brand Lyrica but it’s been five months off of it and on the generics more concerning is, I’m probably going to have a lengthy appeals process if I want to get it back.

I noticed the new generic brand of L that I’m on (Amneal) has alcohol on ingredient list-I believe it’s to print the Amneal name on the capsule. I can’t imagine this is a significant amount, but wondering if this could be causing the problem?

Completely bedbound, very ill getting worse by the day, and just unsure how to proceed, or what’s happening?

Sorry you’ve had these switches @[Pa...] in brand changes. Our sensitivity to them probably varies quite a bit from person to person. I may have had a paradoxical link in the past now I think back & possible was partly due to different brands. It’s very hard to say definitively.
The alcohol used on the capsule is not something heard of but it’s very small.

sorry can’t be more helpful & for what you are experiencing.

Yes, changing brands can have a significant impact. Ask your dr to call other pharmacists to go back to your original brand.

Thanks, Mary. I am going back to brand name. There’s only one generic left on the market, so no others to switch to. My physician got it approved.  It’s going to cost $$ but I can’t continue down this path.
