Thoughts on my micro-gram taper plan of Klonopin? I have a spreadsheet, take a look

Recommended Posts

TL;DR: I am weighing a pill and doing micro-tapers ever day based on weight, shaving .001grams of the pill every other day or so.

Questions:
Is this is a good strategy? Any concerns with this? Wouldn't this be "better" than 5% and 10 % reductions or do some people think even this is too fast?

Here's my history and below my taper plan:
I began taking .5mg clonazepam for about a month and a half due to acute depression from a miscarriage.
But knowing I should also get off, I began tapering to .25mg for another month or so.
Now, I've been taking .125mg for about 4 weeks with little problem and I want to get off of it entirely.

I weigh a pill on a jewelry scale and found that .125mg = .0425grams.
Therefore, look at the amount in grams here.

It's difficult for me to work in grams instead of mg when you're this close to the end because we're not working in percentages anymore. My brain just don't compute. That said, given the fact that you've had a fairly smooth taper at a fairly rapid rate by reducing 50% in a month, I was going to suggest you attempt something similar to 0.001mg per day reductions. I've seen many people do that. If you do that and you jump at 0.025mg which is what I did, it will take approximately 3 months to taper. I'm not sure what your jumping dose at the end of your 2 months is. You could attempt your plan and if it gets tough you can hold to stabilize again and then adjust your plan. That's what I did. Unfortunately these lower numbers are really tricky and we all just have to feel our own way through it.

I wrote a post about How I tapered the end that might help you.

Thanks @[je...] .

Interesting, for me, seeing it in grams works because I'm using a scale.

I was wondering, how exactly did you taper .001mg per day if not by weight? Also using a jewelry scale? Say you get an entire .125mg pill, how did you go to .124mg and later, .122mg if not by some sort of weight calculation?

I used liquid and calculated my reductions based on reducing the active ingredient. I hope that makes sense.

It basically means a certain amount of ml equates to a certain amount of mg. By reducing those ml I reduced the mg.

Ah ok got it. Interesting. I'm not sure why but sticking to pills and weight seems like the way to go for me. It's accurate to .002 grams which should be virtually indistinguishable to the body. Maybe it'll be harder down the road when the weight is extremely small but I should just jump at that point.

I wasn't suggesting you switch to liquid. If dry tapering is working then it's best to stick to that. I'm merely giving you a comparison to work with in mg. :)

Here is a link to a method someone used who dry tapered by doing 0.001mg per day
