Spacing SSRI and benzo some hours apart?

I read about it, but now I can't find it again, and the why. Maybe it was on survivingantidepressants.org

It is recommended to not take them at the same time, but rather space them out to at least 2-3 hours apart? Why?

I used to take my Citalopram at bedtime. But with taking Zolpiclon/Lunesta at bedtime, and having read about the spacing being best, I have taken Citalopram at 18:00 (6 PM). 

I wonder if taking the Citalopram at bedtime as I used to would be better, but I need to be reminded of why/ why not with the Z.

 Hello @[...] - Personally, I haven't seen guidance to avoid taking a benzo or Z-drug and an SSRI at the same time.

As far as what time of day to take your citalopram I would start by having a discussion about this with your doctor.

My understanding is that citalopram can be activating for some people and sedating for others so I think this would be an important factor for you.

Citalopram sedates me, which is why I have always taken it before bed. 

My doctor didn't have anything to say about it.
