H2 blockers during taper

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used pepcid complete while using benzos? Have u ever taken it while tapering benzos? Its an h2 blocker. Antihistamine/antacid Supposed to help with histamine intolerance, mast cell activation syndrome, and covid. Research shows that it can interfere with absorption of lorazapam. I'm tapering. I took it once before,  hours apart, didn't seem to interfere with my benzo but I wasn't tapering then. This kind of stuff usually causes an increase in my symptoms but I am desperate to slow the histamine so I can eat!

I've heard good and bad reports so thought I'd ask all of u

Here is the link regarding the connection to covid treatment using pepcid complete. I'm not sure if this is a positive or not. Time will tell

Hey @[ns...],

I took Pepcid ac for a bit shortly after I jumped.  About a month after I was off I started developing severe acid and histamine issues.  At times I had so much acid in my throat and what can only be described as excess "vapors" in my throat and sinuses that I felt like I was choking.  The pepcid helped a lot.  I did however make me pretty dizzy and gave me a headache.  But on those really bad days, it was worth it.  After a few hours the side effects wore off and I had no lingering effects from taking it.  I could only take one 10 mg pill every 24 hours though, as any more than that made me very nauseous.

I hope this helps some and that you find some relief soon.

Thank u BurnTheShips. Looks like u took pepcid ac. Where I'm taking pepcid complete. It's an h2 blocker. It's helping covid patients ith mcas, from What I have found online.

I have histamine issues and research shows it helps. I took one before dinner, felt nausea for awhile, now I'm sneezing and have a scratchy throat! Could be timing, but maybe it dies that when the histamine in my body get stirred up. Hope it's working. Gonna give it a week! Oh and it did upset my dose a little. Gonna have to separate it a little further out from my dose I guess.

Thanks for responding!

Well.i tried the pepcid complete yesterday afternoon, I am so nauseated today. It did interfere with my dose, caused a little intensity in my symptoms. Poopies and nausea, but not too bad. Idk if I can keep.this up for a week. Wanted to give it a little time to see if it would help with histamine but idk. I guess it causes nausea In some but not all, but if it works It would be worth it if the side effects would go away. If you're considering using it, it's Really sweet, so has sugar in it, that doesn't help! But maybe it will help you if u have histamine intolerance or mcas, i.hope so

I've been experiencing with antihistamines. The only one I can take after months of trying to build up slowly is cetirizine. Most have given me some sort of histamine reaction as you've described, itchy throat etc. I was told this can happen when your histamine build up is excessive, but I'm honestly not sure because natural antihistamines don't do it.

Yes, that also happened with the pepcid complete, I had more allergies but I knew it had to do with the medication stirring up the histamine in me. I guess thats probably good. It's really difficult for me to take any of these antihistamines due to my sodium imbalance. They dry me out so I gave to drink more water which is dangerous for me, I flush out all my sodium. So trying to balance the two is difficult.

Hopefully I can stay with it, I'd much rather take allegra but they stay in your system so long i don't think I'd do well. I tried them all in the past, but allegra was the best for me, this was before I had histamine intolerance.

Hope this article helps you. If u try the pepcid complete please let me know how it worked out.

Thanks for the tip

OK I just took my dose and the allergy symptoms are terrible. As I mentioned I took the pepcid complete yesterday. It did stir up histamine but after taking my dose today the allergies are worse than ever. Really stirring up the histamine. I guess that means it's working but idk if I can tolerate this! Miserable withdrawal symptoms, it's made them flare up with my dose. It's unusual for my symptoms to flare after my dose but with the histamine flare it's made symptoms stronger.

Having terrible stinging in my face, my tinnitus is really bad. All symptoms are worse since taking pepcid followed by my dose.

If your going to try this, please be aware as another member here has also had histamine flare up after using antihistamines, but doesn't sound too bad.

Having a mare, you can see I just posted about the histamine flare after taking my dose. How long have u been on the ceterizine? Is that also zyrtec?

Just learned b12 creates histamine in the body. Eggs! Have b12. I eat them every morning! I ear nut butters, They are high in b12. Broccoli, high in b12. I'm eating too much foods with histamine everyday. But I researched this. All of these foods are low histamine or no histamine, but, b12 stirs up histamine already in the body.

So what to do? Looks like I'm going to have to stick to the pepcid complete and slowly bring it into my system and eat my low histamine foids I guess??  Any thoughts? Ideas, I'm starving. Going to New doc on Wednesday, hope he can figure this out!

If you have histamine intolerance or mcas, please see the link above.

Has anyone tried a DAO for histamine intolerance. Not sure I agree with the ingredients lol. But trying to understand how they work if they have histamine in them. Also, Now super enzymes have bromelain in them. That's pineapple and it's really high histamine,  I know I cant eat that. If anyone has an understanding of how these DAO should work, please let me know.

Thank u 😊

What about decaf green tea? Are you all able to tolerate that? Green tea is psychoactive (so many things are) so some folks can get revved up pretty easily even by that. I drink  decaf green tea to deal with glutamate. I put a few shakes of organic tumeric in the tea, and it really helps me with the malaise caused by too much glutamate. It also contains EGCG, which deals with HISTIDINE, the precursor of HISTAMINE. For a while I was sensitive to green tea (and chamomile) but I slowly started drinking a little at a time, and now I have no problem, and they really help me. For me, glutamate and histamine go hand in hand. Too much of them makes me miserable. Green tea is a lovely medicine for me. 🍵

Talk girl, thank u so much! I'm going to try thar! I haven't been drinking tea lately because it was making poo, but I'm glad to know this.

I will try anything right now. Been in the er today.

The pepcid stirred up such severe histamine in me I had such a bad allergic reaction came here but I was doing better by the time I got here. She gave me a referral to a GI so that's awesome!

I'm starving lol

Going to have some tea tomorrow with turmeric,  decaf green I have!

Thank u so much, I'd like to talk further about this tomorrow if your up to it.

Thanks again

Talk girl, what does that mean? The precursor to Histadine. I almost bought some naked weight gainer which has a whopping 9700 + m of histadine.

Can u please explain how the 2 relate. If histadine is good or bad. I'll research it but sounds like you know a bit about this. Also the weight gainer I was going to buy has glutamaic acid. Sounds like we need to talk.

Thanks so much

My histamine was severely dysregulated during withdrawal. I have taken DAO when it was stirred up, as have many of us who were tapering from mirtazapine (which is partially an antihistamine). I have not had good luck with the regular antihistamines - I can't yet tolerate them. But I tolerated DAO just fine and I do think it was helpful.

Yeah, that's what happened to me with most of them I've tried, and I've tried most of the H1 antihistamines now. A mate of mine has histamine intolerance/ MCAS, still going through the motions of an official diagnosis and waiting to see a specialist. he told me that the histamine reaction is due to you being overloaded with histamine. But how true that is I couldn't say.

I think cetirizine is zyrtec in the US yes, I've been taking a couple of months on and off. I found it a little stimulating at 1st, so would only take it when things were bad. I read it can put you in fight or flight, and is known to cause anxiety in some people. But I've ben working on my gut health and tolerate it very well now. Allevia (UK) I found worked better for my symptoms at the time, but it aggravated my stomach so I couldn't eat anything the next day without getting revved up. It has a negative effect on DAO production, which could explain it?

DAO I also found stimulating, as did my friend with MCAS. We moved onto NaturDAO which is made from pea sprouts. I could tolerate that much better, but didn't make a huge difference in my symptoms and it's pretty expensive. Although you can sprout your own pea's and add them to smoothies, salads etc, which is something I should try.

For me personally Saccharomyces Boulardii seems to be helping a lot. It's good for leaky gut, candida and has been shown to almost double the amount of DAO found in the gut. There are natural H2 blockers such as ginger, liquorice and  gastrodia which you may find helpful, if it's specifically the H2 you want. Or theres good old quercetin as a mast cell stabilizer amongst others

Hey All,

I've been reading this thread and I am intrigued and confused.  I have issues with histamine and don't really know a whole lot about it.  Why does an antihistamine cause a histamine reaction?  Shouldn't it do the opposite?

Hi. Histidine is an amino acid that that plays a part in the creation of histamine.

Hi Tall Girl, yes I'm starting to understand. Still not completely. I've been searching for a weight gainer and found these. I've added this for u and anyone else to chime in. Also found a link which gives u a list of supplements we need to balance histamine.

In my diet I am adding too much glutamate without knowing it.

Trying to figure out what supplements to take with my diet. The weight gainers have so many amino acids in them, I can't tell what's bad or good.  I think we may have found the answer in this information starting with you and your Info in glutamate which really woke me up! Now I understand why I'm having the symptoms om having.

This link gives you the supplements for reducing glutamate;

29 Effective Ways to Reduce Excess Glutamate in the Brain — Optimal Living Dynamics

In the ingredients list of amino acids below, Tall Girl or Anyone, what's in this that increases histamine? Need nutrients  vit and supplements, need calories and fat. I have alkerhies and Histamine intolerance to foods but in these ingredients I think there is alot that will contribute to more histamine and glutamate.

Correct?

Thank u

BurnTheShips, hi. Yes I'm confused too but I'm searching for answers. It's getting more difficult for me to eat! Just the eggs for breakfast are causing me more symptoms. After breakfast om ok, a little jerky and tingly, anxiety. Them I take my dose at 11am, it begins. Allergies, spasms, jumpy stomach, numb tongue, mouth throat. Throat closing. Stinging in my face, head, body.  Everyday it's the same. It goes on for 5 hrs. Went to er yesterday afternoon it was so bad. Not a good choice for my symptoms.  But I got a gi referral. Last night Tall Girl talked about glutamate.  Eggs are full of glutamate! Please do as much research on histamine connection to glutamate, foods and supplements that combat these. Add it here and we'll see if we can figure this out.

The pepcid stirred up the natural histamine in my body which is WHT I went to er. They didn't know much about histamine.

Hang in there, hopefully we can find some answers between many of us suffering from this. Its thr benzos basically and how they reduce gaba, but which if I understand this, this gives glutamate free rein to enhance histamine. Idk but I'm researching.

I've added a i

Link on this feed for supplements to combat glutamate. I sure hope it helps!

I've added a link to this feed. Also amino acids in weight gainers and protein drink. Glutamate seems to be the culprit. Still researching.  It would be great if u could research this topic as well.

My breakfast and other foods I can eat have too much glutamate causing histamine reaction.

See feed for Info and list of amino acids I am questioning.

Just a little caution, should GI issues be an issue.  Having gone through H-pylori....and how looooong it takes to get over it.  And taking Proton Pump Inhibitors for a while...my stomach is destroyed.  Pharmacist says don't take them long term....Doctors prescribe them long term ..Oh My kinda like the benzos lol not for long term use but here take them for 20 years :(

Here's a link that might explain some things...
