It's all in your head...

Recommended Posts

This is an interesting one.

I've been thinking about all the pains we go through during withdrawal. Does anyone else agree that it could all be in our heads? Like our brains are telling us this is happening, that's happening, when really it isn't? There is a word for this I think but I can't remember it for the life of me 🤦🏻‍♂️

Any opinions on this would be great.

@[Ka...] Yes.

I did have to Google that lol.

Is that a symptom of withdrawal as such? Is it common among benzo tapering? Interested to know more.

It’s a general term @[TH...] - translation means all in your head. Which obvs it’s not! On pills & in WD we have very real physical symptoms. Psychological too.

I don’t agree with that, no. The feelings are very much real. Others may have different opinions. The tremors, sweating, etc. aren’t all in the head. Just my opinion.

No it's not. Let me give you an example of what happened to me and I'm sure there are many others who experienced something similar. I didn't know what benzo's were. The pain specialist made a mistake in my prescription and gave me 0.5mg Clonazepam instead of 2mg. That's a 75% cut. I saw the pills were different but thought "oh well what's the harm, I'll just take less". I became very sick. I went to my normal doctor and we started doing tests to determine what was wrong with me. Everything came back normal. I didn't mention the reduction in dose because I didn't know about dependency and in my mind I was still taking the meds. It was only after about a month that it suddenly dawned on me the only difference in my life was the dosage. When I mentioned it to my doctor she immediately said my symptoms were withdrawal.

Now making up symptoms in your head when you don't even know there is such a thing as benzo withdrawal is really difficult to do.

Didn't mean to upset anyone by my post if I have. Just a thought I had. Appreciate the replies.

No you haven’t. If anything it reinforces that it’s not in our head. Symptoms are real. & we need a voice & for that voice to be heard.

No, I'm sure many people wonder if they're imagining their symptoms. I think that part is a benzo lie. We're just trying to reassure you that what you're going through is very real.

I do think that people maybe obsessed with it a little and worry themselves more then they need to and leads to more anxiety and perhaps adding to the withdrawal syptoms
