Worsening tinnitus

Recommended Posts

I took exactly 20 zopiclone pills during spring and summer in 2023 and took the last pill on June 16th. I took the pills only because of tinnitus. After dropping zopiclone cold turkey, after about a month my tinnitus worsened badly. I have had very brief quieter periods since, briefly also near silence, but after some traumatic experiences during Christmas, my tinnitus worsened really really bad. I am struggling to cope mentally. I am so scared and almost suicidal.

My question is: can tinnitus worsened by a Z drug worsen even after quitting the drug due to emotional stress? Does anyone have similar experiences? Am I still in withdrawal although my last pill was almost 7 months ago?

Thanks so much in advance

I don’t know.

There is such a thing as PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome).

Ive had tinnitus since I started tapering in 2019.

still have it and I’m off the pills for 8mos now.

its a very common thing for tinnitus to stick around for longer than we’d like and change in frequency and pitch.

go get your ears checked just for peace of mind and have them flush out any wax.

this may provide some relief.

I know what suffering this can bring. I’m sorry you are going through this. Please hang in there as many people do eventually heal from all their symptoms.

It stinks, but it can take time.

sending you my best.

When it was at it worse I put my head under the kitchen fan.

It's common what ever the reason ppl take benzos/z drugs for, comes back way worse when quitting. In my case insomnia.
