Klonapin taper

[Pe...]

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I been on Klonapin for last 5 months and first started as 0.25 for 2 weeks than 0.5 for 2 weeks and than now 1.5 mg and I feel like I have developed tolerance to it . This summer I did not take it daily but lately I been having some health issues and started taking it  daily. I am also on lexapro and buspar and I feel like those are finally kicked in because my depression has improved significantly. I read horror stories about benzo withdrawal. I wanna talk to my psychiatrist about getting off it. I just wanna hear some positive stories. I know I need to keep in mind steady and slow is what works.

Thanks for listening

Hello @[Pe...] and welcome to Benzo Buddies!

Not everyone will have a difficult withdrawal and recovery, try not to fear this process. Since your dose has been increasing I would say yes, you have reached tolerance. It’s a good time to start looking into tapering. I believe your short term use is in your favor.

Yes, tapering slowly will allow your body to adjust to the dose reductions. Generally we suggest reducing no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days. It’s also important to listen to your body and adjust the rate if necessary.

I hope your psychiatrist will be on board with you tapering off. One word of warning, many times health care providers favor a far too fast and aggressive taper.  This is your withdrawal and you should be able to self direct it.

We’ll be happy to support and encourage you through the process, this is doable!
