Hey Jerry -- I was using 5-10 MG ambien coupled with .5 mg Xanax at night for sleep/stress for a long time - i know it was not a wise idea  to mix.  More on the 5 MG side when mixing with xanax.

I very recently crossed-over from Xanax to Valium and went CT with the ambien.  Valium helped with sleep so i did not miss the ambien - 3 weeks or so already.  

I believe you can taper or CT ambien fairly easily.  I did not experience any physical withdrawal issues like with benzos -- other than sleep issues which I think will go away in a period of time.  I remember years ago stopping ambien and not sleeping well for 5-7 days before things began to normalize.   Way before I got mixed up with Xanax. 

Once I kick benzos for good I could see myself using Ambien PRN in future.  Dont think its totally wise but could see it happening
