Charles - My Favourite SONGS

[Re...]

Yeah, man, liked that one.  The Stones were one of the best rock bands ever and they really understood American music.  They could play old blues, country, R&B, soul .... you name it and they nailed it.  Here's a fairly good example of them doing a Robert Johnson tune (1936) and really getting the essence but still being the Stones.  Hope it appeals to you.

I'm having second thoughts about posting any real hillbilly music; don't think anybody else would really relate.  So I sent WW one just for her since she seemed to like bluegrass.

Yes, ma'am, Byron is the real thing.  That swings.  These are modern hillbillies but two of the best bluegrass bands playing today together.  I'd give my left ..... to pick like any one of these guys:

Just for you WW.

took a peek and john,' rivers of babylon' lifted me out of melancholia into joyful nostalgia for some minutes.

miss violet took the stage singing lead on that song once many moons ago, can you believe? thankyou for posting it, also 'many rivers to cross'.

haven't had the energy to catch up on yesterday's posts.

i like james hunter too.

there's been a lot of street music here this weekend, wanted to go to the reggae band

but i've been very tired and a bit paranoid since my last cut. :)

Well, good to have you back if only for a moment. Take your time and don't push yourself until you adjust to your latest taper.  Yeah, Rivers Of Babylon has always moved me and its a great sing-along.  Be well.

Well, ya'll, I'll not be spending as much time here in the future as I feel I have run out of material that would be appreciated and is available on youtube and because my wife feels I spend too much time on the internet and the forum.  I still love ya'll and will check in from time to time on my good buds but it won't be like it has been.  I'm sorry to leave you and want you to know how much I've enjoyed sharing our likes and dislikes.  Music and my buddies are getting to be almost all I have left.

Anyway, I'll leave you with this one.  Its by a woman whose career I've followed for many years.  She started off doing traditional bluegrass but has progressed to more "newgrass", singer-songwriter, and original acoustic styles.  I think this tune expresses my feelings pretty well as the forum has been my old home place and I do wonder if another music lover will come along to keep ya'll company.  I hope you like it:

Musically yours,

John

Hi wonderwoman,

I like margo very much but sometimes it is hard to catch all her words so I have included the lyrics to Beas  Song. As I found them very powerful.

"Bea's Song (River Song Trilogy: Part II)"

Speed River at my feet running low and flat

I'm sitting here burning daylight,

thinking about the past

and that distance out there

where the earth meets the sky

The slightest move and this river mud

pulls me further down

John's at my side, but he's sitting on firmer ground

John says I look at the moon and the stars

these days more often than I look into his eyes

and I can't disagree so I don't say nothing

I just stare on past his face at Venus rising,

like a shining speck of hope hanging over the horizon

With each passing year that I sit here

that horizon seems to inch just that much nearer

and all that appears on it seems as clear as spit

But if there's on thing in my life

that these years have taught

it's that you can always see it coming

but you can never stop it

Speed River at my feet running low and flat

I'm sitting here burning daylight,

thinking about the past

and that distance out there

where the earth meets the sky

The slightest move and this river mud

pulls me further down

John's at my side,

but he's not noticing that I'm drowning

The slightest move and this river mud

pulls me further down

John's at my side,

but he's not noticing that I'm drowning

My favorite artist is Jack Johnson.. With his laid back music, and surfing tunes his songs are some of my favorites!

I've only heard her sing Crazy, she had an amazing voice.  No need for any electronic enhancement for this lady. ;)

True, she was the real thing. And so was Hank. This type of music has rapidly become lost and isn't appreciated by modern listneners but I am an anachcranism as is this style.  Anyway, I'l steal a little space to honor those who I idolize.  While I'm stealing space, here's another of my favorites, covered by Emmy Lou:

Hey John

Nice to see you again. I think you said you were going to try and titrate off this music thread but it seemed like you may have decided to go c/t.

Heres a question for you. Have you ever looked into country western Yodeling singers? Any favorites?

Here is a clip of a young girl doing a fine job of it IMHO.
