Pill Cutter

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I just bought a new Pill Cutter.

The instruction state to rinse the cutter well with hot water 'before' and 'after' each use and let air dry. This seems a bit excessive and unnecessary. In fact, I just ruined a pill because the cutter had not air dried completely and the pill ended up in a melted condition.

Any input on this will be greatly appreciated...

Thanks, George

I've done two tapers using a pill cutter and scale.  Personally I wouldn't bother rinsing the pill cutter before each use.  I would dust it off with a damp cloth afterward and set it out to air dry.  I would rinse it afterward if there was a lot of powder on it.  I agree with you the instructions seem excessive.  It will be interesting to see what others say.

I "periodically" clean my pill cutter. I'm only cutting one medication and I'm the only person using my pill cutter, so I figure there isn't much to actually clean. Honestly, I'd be more worried about funk growing in a damp cutter than any pill dust that might be left behind.

Thank you. I am going to stop following those instructions. They actually create more anxiety.

You're right. I never thought about the mold potential.
