What is rankism?

People have different rank and positions in society and such rank is necessary for the function of a society.  Nevertheless, no matter what our differences are, we are equal in dignity.  Rankism is the assertion of one’s superiority at the expense of others’ dignity.  To be clear, rankism is the misuse of rank – not a challenge to rank itself.

Dr. Robert W. Fuller is one of the foremost authors on this topic.

A truly great measure of a person is one with rank who doesn't engage in rankism.

Thanks, Challis99

I recall a supervisor I had in the late 90's. He was retired from the Army (I think he may have been a captain, I forget), but the man was really mellow and approachable and helpful and had always looked for ways how to clear the obstacles, so we can do our work. I never had a supervisor like that again, ever.

The one I had in 2010-2013, oh my God. What was I thinking working there. Like Betsy said, Gawd. The most controlling, divide and conquering supervisor I'd had in my entire life. Very rankist.
