American Indian Genocide or American Indian Holocaust are terms used by specialists in American Indian history, as well as American Indian activists,[1] to bring attention to what they contend is the deliberate mass destruction of American Indian populations following the European arrival in the Americas, a subject which they allege has hitherto received very limited mention in history, partially because some of the deaths happened before European chroniclers arrived to record them.[1]

Many acts which American Indian activists view as genocide are sometimes brushed aside as wartime deaths by non-Indians.[1]

Estimates of the pre-Columbian population vary widely, though uncontroversial studies place the figure for North, Central and South America at a combined 50 million to 100 million,[2] with scholarly estimates of 2 million[3] to 18 million[4] for North America alone. An estimated 80% to 90% of this population perished after the arrival of Europeans,[5] overwhelmingly from factors which deniers of genocide argue were beyond most human control — e.g., smallpox epidemics[6] — Europeans, especially the Spanish conquistadors, also killed thousands deliberately.

I know what you mean with Cherokee in my family.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unthanksgiving_Day  and watching what is happening at Standing Rock  WBB

Yeah it's really sad. At least I can teach my daughter what really happened back then . It's crazy what they try to teach in schools . The fact that everyone's aware of what happened to and they still teach the wrong information. It's something that has always been brushed underneath the rug in America .

Some people also have no clue. I have gotten in arguement with grown men over this. One guy tried to tell me that there were Hardley any natives here when the selttlers arrived and they were all just savages . The conversation didn't go very well after that.

I'm sorry Remy. Have you seen "Where to invade Next'? As a native American, I think you might like what Michael Moore has to say about America and how we might atone for the past and our own atrocities.

It does seem that "National Land Theft and American Genocide Day" is a more appropriate name.

Hello Remy,

I'm sorry, but I have to lock this thread.  Colin, the founder of BenzoBuddies, has banned the discussion of controversial subjects such as this, since they upset members who are already in a fragile and emotional state.  Here's a quote from Colin, along with our mission statemtent:

The BB Mission Statement:

BenzoBuddies: an inclusive, nonjudgmental mutual-support environment for those who wish to withdraw from benzodiazepines.

Members of the BenzoBuddies community are encouraged to exchange ideas, information and support during the process of withdrawal and recovery.

Although outside of the immediate scope of BenzoBuddies, members are free to discuss their wider medical problems and needs as they relate to benzodiazepine use and withdrawal.

Taking or quitting any medicine—including benzodiazepines—should be a personal decision made in consultation with a suitably qualified medical practitioner.

Through a peer-support model, we strive to help members achieve their goals.

Although I am loath to disallow specific topics for discussion, I think these type of subjects (especially in the present climate) are (at best) a distraction from the BB Mission, and are (probably more likely) a hindrance for many members.

So, please avoid comment on the US presidential campaign, Obama, Trump, yesterday's tragic events in Florida, guns, gun control, terrorism, religion, and any other incendiary topics.
