Expanding Vocabulary

[az...]

Recommended Posts

This is a place to put down a new word you'd like to learn, re-learn or better understand. You can also share any word you know already. (I decided on this game because I found my own range of vocabulary insufficient.) You do not have to put in how to sound it out phonetically or include all definitions. The amount of definitions you include are up to you. Choose a word that starts with the next letter of the alphabet from the one before.

CeCe, ahoy!

Ahoy: (nautical) a hail used to call a ship or attract attention.

Ahoy can also be used as a greeting, warning or farewell.

Alexander Graham Bell thought we should greet each other with "ahoy" over the phone until Thomas Edison changed his mind.

Basilica : usually an extravagantly rich and ornate building of large scale. Comes from root word(s) that mean "king's chamber."

1.) Roman town hall from antiquity.

2.)  Christian church from long ago.

3.) A present day Catholic church.

YES! Perfection, CeCe. I managed to wrangle this word and it took enough time that you'd replied already but that is fine! The more words, the better. I like yours.❤️
