Sous le Ciel de Paris

Recommended Posts

Chanson d' Amour.    Manhattan Transfer.

I think you want us to write a list of French songs as a tribute to the people of Paris and, indeed, France.

This is a stab in the dark with my schoolgirl French so sorry if I've done the wrong thing! Please let me know! x

Merci beaucoup.

I meant you do this:

Manhattan Transfer - Chanson D`Amour

or if you know how, do this:

Then we listen to the song right here.

By the way, I love Chanson D'Amour, and you can see, in the video, the Manhattan Transfer love it too. But what crazy show was that? It looks like Hee-Haw, doesn't it? But the Manhattan Transfer did have their own summer replacement variety show in 1975, which you can read about here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072540/combined. So that's probably where that clip came from.

Here's another YouTube with maybe a better audio quality:

Merci pour cette chanson. Je l'ai écouté déjà quatre fois.

Hey redevan, I'm pleased I almost got it right! It was like a puzzle! I will get my boyfriend to show me how to do the thing you suggest and then re- post!

A bientot! Gilly x

I don't know how to do accents on here. Pardon!

PS Are you French/French Canadian or just like to use French? It fascinates me!

Redevan, here's a French song I have liked for years. The singers (and the song) are not, alas, French French but rather French Canadian . . . two sisters from Quebec, Kate and Anna McGarrigle. Here's the song, entitled Blanche Comme La Neige. It is variation on the Sleeping Beauty myth.

And here's another song by the McGarrigles which people can click on if they like this one and want to hear more of the sisters sing in French (they have had quite a bit of success singing in English, also) . . . the song is called Perrine Etait Servante.

Enjoy!

Here is some very nice Christmas music sung in Brittany French. The group is L'Ensemble Choral Du Bout Du Monde and the album is Noels Celtiques:

Le Bien Que Fait Mal -

that's actually a perfect description of benzos, isn't it?

That song rocks.

Merci

redevan:

That's why I put it up. It is just like benzos. :smitten: :smitten: Merci back at ya!

Not French (Belgian), but beloved by the French:

This is just one of Brel' songs performed by (but not translated by) Scott Walker:

I've no Jacque Brel (something I'm sure to correct at some stage); I have just one Piaf CD; and as for Scott Walker, just a couple of his later works (

and The Drift (not exactly 'easy listening')). I'll probably end up getting some of Walker's earlier albums too.

I have quite a bit of other music by French musicians and bands. French music is pretty underrated in the UK (and I suspect, in the US too). Not that I claim to be any kind of connoisseur - see what I did there! :)

Oh, just to add, I do have a couple of Dewey Balfa and Balfa Brothers CDs. So, kinda French, and French music being appreciated in the US! Well, sortof.  ::)

Ne me quitte pas is one of the great ones all right. Thanks for the link, Colin.

I'd never heard the Scott Walker performance before, but I know he did a lot of Jacques Brel after he went solo.

I think it was Shirley Bassey that had the big hit with that version in the US, back in the day.

My brother-in-law is from Louisiana, so I can assure you,

cajun is just French without the perfume - without the bath, even.  >:D

Bien assez pour moi. Savourez!

  • 4 weeks later...
