writing/publishing books - any tips?

Recommended Posts

I have started on my life story.

The more I write, the more I remember and it is coming on very quickly - 10,000 words in 2 days.

Anyone got advice or knowledge of book publishing?

I see that e publishing is popular now.

Have no particular plans for this ... just want some advice, info, weblinks.

Thank you.

I was taught self publishing can be the way to go..  plus its free. There are companies that will add you to a list which looks all professional but it costs money and does not do a whole lot.

Unless you had planned on selling printed copies? In that case finding someone to invest would be good as it costs a lot to print. Sorry can't help with that part.

Lets see what others say?

In addition to e publishing I saw on tv that there are places that will print to order.

Finally joining is a published author with several books. Maybe she has some pointers

Hi bobo and fonz.

Was hoping for more replies given the number of folk who say they are writing books.

I have no specific plans.

As with all things in my life, I now adopt a "try it and see" approach.

Not interested in making money, happy to spend £1,000 perhaps.  Just pulled that out of the hat!

If it ends up being read only by friends that is ok.

It would be nice to give others hope and inspiration though.

Hugs

I wrote a murder mystery novel last year, before I went into tolerance withdrawal and benzo hell. It was set in my hippie days in Orient (Valley View) hot springs in Colorado. I've been trying to get agents and publishers interested, but with no luck. I may try the self-publishing route, but until I get off benzos my mind won't work well enough to figure it out. I really don't care about making money off the book, I just want somebody to read it! It was great fun to write, recalling an exciting time and place - the murder is all fictional, though many of the characters are based on people I actually knew.

Good luck with your book idea,

MirandaJane

Thank you, MJ.

Just been reading that most books don't sell lots of copies. :(

It doesn't matter to me how successful the book might be.

Even 100 people would be nice.

I would give it away for nothing.  ;D

Good luck to you too.
