How come so many ppl have the same profile photos?

I see a lit of the same obscure profile pics in the forum (example: Kurt Cobain) how is it that more than one person has the same random pic?

I think some people grab them from the small library of avatars that the forum makes available.  Obviously, some of the choices are popular. 

 

Others find or create their own avatars.

I went with the small list of avatars at first- until I was inspired to make my own.
