Bob Dylan

Recommended Posts

If you’re reading this, either you’re just curious about why there’d be a Bob Dylan thread on BB, or you’re interested.

For me, his music has been helping me for over 40 years – well before benzos! And still.

Helping me when down; when up; when sideways!

Helped me travel many places.

Including past frightened trees, and twisted crazy sorrow…

Imagine where this guy has been:

Take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind

Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves

The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach

Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free

Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands

With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves

Let me forget about today until tomorrow

For me, he is not the “Voice of a Generation” which kinda defines him as an abstraction.

Instead, an extraordinarily gifted individual who has helped – and entertained – many.

I’d love to chat with people who feel similarly, or who don’t, but just stumbled here.

Doesn’t have to be about Dylan, of course.

About anything…

I’ll post a stunning performance…hopefully, it won’t disappear from youtube. It’s Bob with the Japanese Philharmonic Orchestra, doing “Hard Rain.” Also, if you skip to near the end, “I Shall Be Released,” with Joni Mitchell and others… (starts just  after 14:58)

Healing to all!

My dear Stevets

Here I was listening to Joan Baez and there were the words 'Bob Dylan' floating amongst the support groups

And it is you - my dear Stevets - seeking other random people who've fallen through the looking glass

I'm at the bottom of the rabbit hole Steve. Where to from here?

Love Dylan can't count how many times I've seen him. I want to be the woman in the wheelbareel that he falls in love with and wheels down the street.

Oh, Steve - just found your Dylan thread! How are you?

Been listening to the Japanese Philharmonic accompanying Dylan - first time I've heard this. Wow. Also found listened to Dylan playing keyboard and singing with Nora Jones, an expected combination for me.

Some Dylan song quotes:

You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

If you need somebody you can trust, trust yourself.

Behind every beautiful thing, there’s been some kind of pain.

May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong, may you stay forever young.

What looks large from a distance, close up ain’t never that big.

Don’t criticize what you can’t understand.

Thank you for helping me rediscover Dylan after so many years. He remains sensitive and thought-provoking to this very day, with a heart that we can't help but love. Who else expresses the sweet and sour realities of life so well?

Be well,

:smitten:

Hey V,

Where'd you find the Nora Jones one?

Wow is right. In fact, he said somewhere that he felt he'd not sung so well in 25 years. Also, it always me to see the looks on people's faces who are singing with him.

BTW, let's not forget "He not busy being born is busy dying!"

You be well, too...

Gotta love Bob Dylan.

Hey NTT!

Great!

When I listen to Bob, I never "interpret." Just listen, and actually imagine myself walking "through the smoke rings of my mind"... and then end up on that windy beach.

I may have said this in the OP, but think about this: Bob actually did walk past haunted trees, and came out on the other side. And, with his amazing talent, has taken us with him. Now, that is really something. Thanks Bobby boy!

Do you do the same, or enjoy him some other way

So glad y'all posted.

And best to all that have so far...I hope more come. I think he makes a great Buddie!! :)

Steve :)

I accept chaos, I'm not sure whether it accepts me.

                                                            -- Bob Dylan

Seems to pertain to benzo withdrawal. So much of Dylan applies to every facet of life.

Finding the same with Leonard Cohen.

Thanks for the wonderful thread, Steve. Hope all is well.

Hey Mind!

I don't recall that. And I've been following him for decades. Great.

Well, I began it, but it's not my thread.

And it doesn't need to be about Dylan.

Not too populated so far, and may not be. Hope so though. I was surprised, actually, since people from maybe 14 - 90 love him.

So, my thinking was, as in the original post, that if you click on the thread, you're already interested.

As far as I'm concerned, people can talk about anything from benzos to geography, to physics, to poetry, to love, to Donald Duck, and even some Frankie Lee if anyone wants to.

If people do keep popping by, I'll become more involved myself, but won't ever help "carry" the thread. Just a participant. If it needs carrying, then maybe Bob will need to stop by. But he wont. He's too busy not talking about organic farming!

BTW, what ever happened to that sonnet we were working on?? And your creative block, buddie, huh ??  lol :)

It took me HOURS to write that post. And what reward do I get? You're still not writing!

I'm totally kidding, of course. I thoroughly enjoyed writing that. It was a lot of fun writing and observing it at the same time.

Uh. Oh.

Oh, man, I didn't want to do this. Please? Make it stop?

Good morning, Steve. Here is the link to the Nora Jones & Dylan duet:

Some say I looked like her (or Sally Field) when I was LOTS younger.

That was a lifetime ago. Where do the years go anyway?

hugs, hope, healing,

Love the poem, Steve!

Uh oh, which thread did I forget? I'm sorry. My cog fog gets bad. Did I forget something?  :(

I'm hoping to get back to writing. It sure is hard with this mental fatigue. I'm remembering we had some poetry going on, but I can't remember the thread. Grrr. . . be glad to get back to normal, whatever that is!

Dylan fans,

you should check out the movie "I'm not there".

It's a movie based on Bob Dylan's life; different actors play Dylan in different stages of his life. Christian Bale is in it, and a bunch of other famous actors. It's actually a really good movie that doesn't get a lot of attention.

Hey spartacus!

Thank you!

For my sake, and others too, I hope it picks up some steam...

I personally enjoy interacting with people who would be interested in a thread where the title is Bob Dylan! :)
