And the Advertisers. And the healthcare system. And co-pays. And the TV shows that you watch that are going to gain revenue from the Marketing Companies that pay them to air the commercials. And the plastic companies that make the prescription bottles to put the pills in. And the warehouses where the medicine is stored and shipped. And the truck drivers who haul it around the country. And the packaging companies (my dad worked for a packaging company it's how we got food on the table) to package the "starter free sample kits" and the Pharmacists. And the Walgreens and CVS's. Don't forget Walmart.

Oh wait. I'm addicted to tangential thinking.

Does anybody here have a job?

You are correct, Intermezzo IS ambien but with a 4 hour life.  You can take it sublingual.

Why was it developed?

Because regular ambien usually only works for about 4-6 hours when taken on a regular basis (tolerance)

Regular ambien could always be used sublingually, they just didn't advertise that, because it is so bitter...More $ for Purdue Pharma.

AmbienCR was developed because of the short duration of the regular ambien and complaints by the consumer.  More $$ for Purdue.

Now they have come out with Intermezzo to supplement the regular acting ambien.  It is said to work about 4 hours, so it is taken when you awaken from the ambien you took at bedtime at 2 am.

Will it be MORE addictive that Ambien?  It IS Ambien and used to supplement the ambien that was already taken at bedtime.

Does this smack of insanity?  Yes, big Pharma at it's finest, and they thought we were so stupid!!!!!

I posted this on another thread.  It just doesn't end does it!!!!

Some people do really struggle from insomnia so badly that they want to commit suicide. I was one of those people at one point, so if there is a new sleeping pill that comes out, why is it anyone's business other than someone who may want relief? As long as people are informed, I think that's fine. Ambien -- which I no longer take -- pretty much saved my life when I had a medical insomnia which lasted for so long that I became physically unwell.

Studies show that not getting enough sleep at night significantly reduces ones' life span.

It certainly reduces peoples' quality of life and can degrade one's psychological state until they wind up like I was, taking a gut full of pills and winding up in the ER getting my stomach pumped before a psychiatric admission for attempted suicide due to temporary psychosis related to not being able to sleep.

Just some perspective.

I used to use Sonata (zaleplon) for middle of the night waking. This new version of zolpidem doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more than zaleplon.

No Bellisima, I was not suicidal, I was responding to the point someone made, that it was no one's elses business if they wanted to take these pills in order to save their life (Blueorchidlady).  That wasn't your point for starting this thread.

I was DEFending your point that the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Ambien is now selling a 3RD version of the same drug.  This is called triple dipping in the industry!  I agree with you that this system is flawed.

Skyy,

Good for you to stand up for yourself and clarify.  Don't know how that got so messed up.  I myself need to remember our nerves are raw and its easy for many to quickly become upset, miss the point and totally misunderstand.  It's happening to me in another discussion and I can't believe how what I had posted is being taken.  Not as messed up as how yours got twisted but I'm feeling it.  At this point I don't want to give an opinion again when asked.  Sorry I read that and and had to post.
