Hi there,

I've been considering relinquishing Benzos for quite some time now. I now feel ready and excited, quite frankly. For about 4 years I've been prescribed 2mg of Clonazepam. I took it as needed for anxiety and honestly abused it more than not. I've done substantial reading on tapering off of Benzos and am planning on starting a straight-forward Direct Taper. I've read through a large portion of the forums, and you all appear to be wonderful people, whom I look forward to getting to know.

As a general rule I can go about 5 days without feeling any real withdrawal symptoms. I crave them, of course, but nothing physical hits me until approximately 5 days, and at that point It's awful. And from there I can take 1-2mg and last about another 5 days. So I'm not really sure where to start my baseline dose. And considering I usually take my Klonopin about every 2-3 days should I be taking my taper doses every 3 days?

My current plan is to clean the slate and take 1mg a day for 7 days and then taper down every two weeks by 15% . Anyway, I know this is only an introduction, but I thought I might squeeze in a few questions while I'm here.

Thanks In Advance,

Marlowe

Hello Marlowe,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies, we are glad you found us.

Congratulations on your decision to become benzo free, this will lead you to a life of health and happiness.

I think that your plan to stabalize is correct.  You might consider stabalizing for a longer period of time if you are having strong symptoms.  Magrita is right, it is generally advised to cut no more than 10% at a time and some even cut less to make it gentler on your cns.

You will find a community of knowledgable, kind and caring people willing to help and encourage you.  Please feel free to ask questions.

Hello Marlowe and welcome!

I'm not sure if you've seen the taper schedules on the Ashton Manual site, here it is; http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/bzsched.htm.

Scroll down to the spreadsheet called "Schedule 5" you'll see the table for Clonazepam.
