What does sugar do to you?

A lot of people say sugar revs them up but I never noticed it until now. I've been eating this one candy and shortly after my obsessive thoughts and depression and anxiety go absolutely CRAZY. Like I can't even function crazy. What the heck?  :-\

I either get a headache or get really tired and weak about 30-60 minutes after I eat it. Then I feel horrible mentally (agitation/intrusives/anger/anxiety) for a day or two. So no sugar for me ever :(

Oh man it's so bad mmir. maybe this is a sign of healing for me, finally reacting negatively to sugar...

I was blowing up at people around me because of it, it almost ruined at least one relationship becuase my obsessive thoughts were so out of control!

I still cannot tolerate sugar 2 months later. not even cane sugar for some reason. white refined sugar is worse though. it drives me nuts. I am still dealing with severe food sensativity. I just eat 100% natural sugars now. stay away from anything with added sugar in it. It is very strange bcause my food sensativity didnt fully kck inuntil my second month of withdrawal. If anyone has any questions about food sensativity, feel free to ask me. I havebeen dealing with it forthe last 21+ months and have alot of experiance with it. alot of trial and error. take care    -Jacob

Sugar is never a wise choice for me but I still partake. After I eat sugar, I feel exhausted and my mind is cloudy and confused.

When you eat sugar, your insulin level rises and it then releases epinephrine and cortisol from your adrenals. Then comes the adrenaline and it sets of your heart and then all bets are off as what happens to the benzodiazepine recovering body! :o

I am definitely going to try to stay away from it from now on, which will be hard cuz I'm kind of addicted to it.

I don't think sugar interferes with healing. I think it raises some symptoms. I eat sugar every now and then. I have never heard of it preventing healing.

I don't have any negative reaction to sugar at all. Sugar? It's pretty benign unless you eat too much and raise your blood sugar or are diabetic. Not so great for tooth decay. I eat plenty of sugar and sweets.

I've been eating things with Stevia lately and so far haven't noticed any revving up of symptoms.

Anyone had any issues with Stevia?

Sugar most definitely revved up my symptoms a few months into post withdrawal and I haven't knowingly touched it since. I'm 22 months off benzos. Tried a sweet dessert thing a few days ago and I don't think the symptoms were revved up though it's pretty much impossible to tell what effects symptoms because they seem to change for no good reason. Perhaps the sensitivity is fading. I'm not sure. I'll stay away from sugar for a while longer anyway.

Jacob151. I see you have alcohol mentioned on your profile. Have you tried taking alcohol again? Does it have the same effect as sugar. Worse? Beers and wines have sugar as well as alcohol to deal with.

No i have not. I am an Alcoholic. So that is my other demon i am battling. I have not drank or used since i quit benzos. I have been sober for 21+ months now. I also have not smoked in 18+ months now.  #self improvement

Jacob151 Well done on the booze as well as the benzos. It's hard doing both. I'm booze free for 22 months but wouldn't call myself an alcoholic. However the interaction of booze plus benzos caused me no end of complications. I found myself drinking more as I tapered. Thought I was just giving myself a treat. I didn't realise that my body was making up for the lack of benzo by grabbing the booze instead. When I finally got the message I stopped everything and have been slowly, very slowly recovering. What was your experience with the mixture of benzos and alcohol? If you don't want to talk it's fine. I know how you feel.
