I most often feel almost completely normal at night.  It's weird my anxiety and depression diminish at night I feel calm and relaxed, but as soon as my eyes open whether it's 3 am or 5 am I have intense exaughsting anxiety all day up until night time.  Does this happen to anyone else?

oh ya big time.  i feel pretty good at night, i used to wake up at 3 or 5 and the same thing happened, but as time went on i slept through the night and the anxiety in the morning dies down too, it all gets better:)

My w/d symptoms are almost always better at night. That is, until tonight. Symptoms were so bad I reinstated after being benzo free for almost a month :(

Sure enough...I have terrible akathisia during the day, but at night I can sit in one place, drink my iced tea, and feel calm.  Seems like my w/d is worst in the morning and declines as the day goes by (usually, anyway).

Hey A new one

I wonder what that is about.  I feel the same the morning comes and i cry and am anxious all day then as the day goes on I feel ok.  Its really really weird.  Have you any theories about it.

Hi Annie3.

I too always feel better as the day goes on but even if I have a "good" day like yesterday, I always feel very symptomatic in the mornings. It has been explained to me that the reason is high cortisol and low blood sugar. I have, though, noticed a little difference since I have been taking red tart cherries, started these a few days ago so fingers crossed...

I always feel bad in the morning, better as the day goes on, almost normal at night.

The Bipolar Recovery. Windows for Night Owls.

At least in the morning I can tell myself I'll feel better later.

I guess that's better than never feeling better.

yes, happens to me when i am depressed. nights are the big relief times. mornings are horrible. this is called the "diurnal cycle" of depression. some experience the reverse (but they are less in number than the former).

Oh really Vin

can you have depression as well as withdrawal depression?

Lizzy

yes lizzy you get tolerance withdrawal depression though it is nowhere as intense as c/t depression (and you know i've been through those too). i think you meant "tolerance" withdrawal in your post above. tolerance withdrawal depression is milder -- it's like  feeling bummed out and irritated till noon or post noon and then normal for the rest of the day. c/t depression is unrelenting like a hurricane and 24/7. :(

i suspect i misread your post. yes you can have depression as well as withdrawal depression together. :( that's like a double whammy.

ha ha lizzy, ya SENSIBLE is apt.

i dug out the etymology of cold turkey 'cos you got me thinking and curious. well, here it is:

------------------------------------------------------------------

There are several explanations of the phrase's origin:

A narrowing of the meaning "suddenly or without preparation," from cold turkey being a dish that requires little preparation; originally used for heroin addicts.

From the American phrase talk turkey meaning "to speak bluntly with little preparation".

Some believe the derivation is from the comparison of a cold turkey carcass and the state of a withdrawing addict — most notably, the cold sweats and goose bumps.

Reference to the periods after Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays where cold (leftover) turkey was likely to be eaten, coinciding with the end of those holidays' characteristically high alcohol consumption.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

i'll go with the first explanation (heroin addicts). if they're serving you cold turkey in the hospital, tell them a hot turkey or panini sandwich is not that hard to prepare.

ahahahaha Vin

love it I will go with the heroin addicts to that sounds apt.  You sound like fun you want me to get you a room here you can come off al that crap in one swift go we can go mad together.  Turkey is not happening in australia we dont do thanksgiving however i do see them popping up around xmas time.  Thanks for researching that was great.  Not much happening here everyone zonked out in bed i think.  omg Vin whose thread are we on and taking over I must stop doing this I talk everywhere.  Vin before I go have you been over to my new detox blog come visit me perhaps you already have lol and ive forgotten.

Sorry Annie I hope you dont mind some frivolity on your thread.

i thought i posted in your detox blog or was it in another thread? i'll check.

i'd love to join you and eat cold turkey together but if wishes were horses...

i have this sneaky feeling now that cold turkey is perhaps the magic ingredient that can instantly help us recover from withdrawals. hey, it works for heroin addicts! i think cold turkey is NMDA antagonist, gaba boosting and HPA axis hyperactivity suppressant and restorative of damaged brain cells. i think i'll start a thread proclaiming my new discovery.

you have visited me i just saw it again love that thread so much action lol.  Hey there is so nothing wrong with your brain you are a bloody genious and i think you have come up with something so deep you definately need to start a thread its so worthy.  Hey I wonder if there is a gaba bank.  Perhaps we could borrow some.  Im thinking there is nothing wrong with you at all.  I cant wait till you taper im going to be there the whole way.  I should be sooooo normal by then.

I almost always feel better in the evening. Like most of the replies here.

At first when I felt well at night I actually expected that I would wake up feeling well the next day.

It took awhile but it finally sunk into my thick head.

Enjoy the evening, because tomorrow morning begins the pain.

Oh well, I'm not alone.

Yes dear, I have often felt the symptoms lift at night throughout many months.  During my taper I could count on feeling better after the sun went down and around 11p.m. I was very normal, relaxed and hungry.  I have been in withdrawal for a while now and the symptoms are not in any sort of pattern but there are times when just as the sun is setting the depression and anxiety can become less and late at night it is better.  Like you, the anxiety or depression will hit me sometime before the sun comes up and then stay with me until night again. I know this all too well.

This is common.  I had asked about this and posted about this a long time ago and others posted me back and said that they too felt better at night.  I do think this is common.  Hope4us

Sheeeeeesh....I thought it was just me and apparently I was just unhappy with my job.  I always feel better at night.  I can have a nagging headache all day at work and when I get home it goes away.  So maybe my job is not the problem and the real problem is me & benzos.  ::) Thanks for all your posts.  I guess....considering our situation....I'm normal.  ;D

So basically, benzos turn us into vampires.

Twilight is really about tapering.

No wonder I've felt so undead.

Very strong pattern that's been present since day 1 of wd is feeling decent during the day as long as something doesn't rev me up or i'm in a wave, 4-5pm comes a horrible wave every single day that lasts until about 9pm, then after 9pm I feel NORMAL. It's been that way every single day, without fail.
