[le...]
Caved last night after not taking ambien for 30 days. Took 5 mgs because so desparate for sleep. I am upset at myself. I wonder how much one dose sets me back from recovery?
[fi...]
When was the last time you had ambien before this? fg
[Me...]
You state that you last took Ambien 30days ago. I have read your previous posts and you have being struggling so badly with insomnia. I really doubt the 5mgs is going to have much of an impact on your recovery. I also read that you did not take Ambien regularly or at any large dose? Was there ever a time after your sinus op that you slept well without medication? Sorry for the questions but I am just trying to understand whether your insomnia is still as a consequence of Benzo w/d or that it could still physiological (sinus related)
[le...]
Thanks for responses. The last time i took ambien before was march1 for a week prior. I cave once a month. I can tell just from that one dose that i was effected. I do believe their is a physological component as well. I became an insomniac after the sinuses went bad then went on drugs shortly after that but my sinuses were much worse then and so was my anxiety. [fi...]
Do you have allergies as well? I know when I had them I could not sleep at times, but I was soooo.... fatigued all day long. The nasal spray Astelin helped me out. It was prescribed by my doctor. Oh, I also use Sinus Rinse nearly every day to rinse out my sinuses. It is all natural and is similar to a neti-pot, but easier to use. At any rate, I hope your sleep returns promptly. Sincerely, fg
[Me...]
Have you had a sleep study done to rule out sleep apnea? I have had 3 sinus drainage operations so I know how terrible it is. I agree with FG that rinsing the sinuses each day. I use Saline Solution or you could make up your own - 1 teaspoon Salt, 1 teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda and tiny pinch of sugar mixed in warm water. It is so worrying to read that such a small dose of Ambien could effect you. I know many don't regard Ambien as a real benzo but I find the w/ds from it worse than Benzos. [Sh...]
Have you tried Benadryl instead of Ambien?
[le...]
I appreciate all the responses. Unfortunately I have a surgically induced condition called Empty Nose Syndrome. I am bone dry without mucous production because my inferior turbinates were damaged and partially removed in surgery. So my passages do get inflamed at night because they need moisture to stay open. I use a humidifier and that helps somewhat. So yes I have a physical problem but I know other people who have my problem and they can sleep ok. I remember as a kid I had blocked nose and would breath through mouth at night and slept fine. But I still think their is a withdrawl compenent as well because as mentally and physically tired as I rarely get sleepy. So my typical night is go to bed at midnight and then if I am lucky I will fall asleep within the hour and sleep for two hours then i am wide awake for the rest of the night. Sometimes i will get another crappy hour in close to morning hours. Certainly not enough to function. Regarding benadryl and unisom . They do not work on me and just make me even dryer. Hard to stay positive

Hard to stay positive leogeo, I don't know it this could help you or not, but perhaps a CPAP machine used for sleep apnea would help you. Not for intending it for apnea, but with the thought that the machines have a heated humidifier with a small integrated water reservoir and variable adjustment. This is a direct application for the sinuses and comes with a nose mask or nose and mouth mask and is superior to humidifying a room. The pressure setting could set low if your not in need of it for apnea purposes. This could really help you with dried out or blocked sinuses during sleep.
