May Reinstate

Things have not been going well lately.  I've been diagnosed by several reputable pdocs with Major Depressive Disorder, which runs in my family.  I've been having a difficult time finding an a/d that works for me.  I tried a couple of SNRIs (Cymbalta and Pristiq), but both seemed way too stimulating.  My pdoc has now recommended that I use benzos as a way to get on an effective a/d.  I'm inclined to follow her advice.  I have a family to support and I can't be on the edge of losing it all the time at work.

You're a great bunch of compassionate people and I appreciate all of the support you've given me.  I hope I can count on all of you in the future.

Hang in the Roberr. I think medication can be very helpful. It may not be for everyone but for many, it works very well. How have you been feeling since you made the jump as far as wd issues?

I would suggest getting a second and third medical opinion.  Surely there is an a/d or combination that would work without going back to the benzo!  Benzodiazapenes are not for long term use more than a week.  Countries like Great Britain seem to understand this.  I feel your pain and I think you can find the right medications without going back on a benzodiazapene.  It can sometimes take 18 months to fully heal after you've been off. If I read your sig correctly, it's only been a year for you.  I struggled with some blues too at a year during winter.  Spring is here now and the combination of more outdoors exposure to sunshine and exercise along with an a/d might be all you need.  Think about it!

Hi Rob,

I really hope you find an option that works for you. I've personally never dealt with depression (beyond normal levels) so I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. You should definitely do what you have to do. Only you know what you're going through and what you can handle. I will say this though. I hope your doctor has encouraged you to try everything possible before resorting to a medication. A good doctor will use drugs as a last resort. Exercise, light therapy, nutrition, therapy, and lifestyle changes are all ways to handle these problems before resorting to drugs. Definitely try cognitive behavioral therapy as well. I do wish you the best. Everyone deserves to be happy. Take a long look at your life and decide what you must change to make yourself happy. Good luck!

SSRI's seriously overstimualet me too, but I had decent luck with Celexa, which made me sleepy and groggy (I'd also taken Zoloft, Paxil, and Prozac).

Good luck!
