What is Your Tinnitus Like?

I'm just trying to determine if my continuing battle with tinnitus is really from w/d or whether it stems from something else, since I had tinn. pre-benzo.

During my w/d and recovery period, my tinnitus has steadily improved. I usually have a slight hiss, predomantly on the right side. And some days I even have complete silence.

An audiologist told me months ago, that if your tinn comes and goes and if you have periods of silence, that is a very good sign that your tinn is not a permanent thing. That gave me a lot of hope.

I do still have times, like this week, where it ramps up for no apparent reason. I am keeping track to see if it goes up and down with my hormonal cycles, or if it seems to be tied into waves. But I am curious as to how everyone elses Tinn treats them. Does your tinnitus come and go? Or is it constant? Do you see a steady improvement, or do you experience it along with your windows and waves?

Tinnitus is often not really that bad in the day time... but can be worse at night and if i am hitting a rough patch... it has not been terrible as yet but i have noticed it higher when i get real anxious suddenly... but it is the least bothersome sx so far... i think it has only bothered me a couple of nights getting to sleep... and that was after hitting a wall so stress makes it worse for sure.

I no longer use headphones for obvious reasons, music is out for the duration at the moment.

I'm still tapering, and picked up tinnitus / head noises towards the end of a previous too fast taper. The noises I have are not tonal but more like electrical static / buzzing. This doesn't appear to come from the ears but more the head. The sound moves around on different days from top, to sides, to back. Best case scenario for me is hissing. I haven't had a completely quiet day in 15m. Never had a hint of this before this Benzo mess.

I wish you well

Thanks for your replies. I really feel for those of you who have had it constantly for months. I know how loud and mind bending it can be. I do feel so fortunate that I am having periods of relative silence. Bear in mind that silence, for me, can still mean a distant hiss.

I know what you mean about the buzzing electrical sensations in the head. I get that some days too. It replaces the screeching in my ear region.

I really do believe that what I am experiencing now is still residual w/d symptoms. I know I am not completely out of the woods yet on that front. Our experiences sound the same in some cases.

Wishing you all peace and silence and healing.
