Anyone have itchy bumps on the scalp and face?

Not sure if it is a reaction to hydrocodone but my mom only takes 2.5mg per night.

Yes, I did and it turned out I had Shingles.  I have had them twice during this nightmare.  See if your moms outbreak is on one side of her face/scalp...and if they are I would make sure they are not Shingles.  Mine were under my skin first, then 'popped' out into reddish blisters.

I hope this is not what it is but it's always good to check these things out.

It also sounds like rosacea. I developed rosacea through this nightmare, and my dermatologist put me on Sulfur face wash and metro gel, and it's helped a LOT.

I would just see a doctor about it and see what topicals they might be able to prescribe. BTW, these topicals in no way affected my w/d s/x. One of the few things that has worked well. Everything else I try I have a major reaction to.

I've had a recurring itchy hive-like thing on the left side of my face on the jawline about two inches from my chin.  It gets red, itchy and irritated sometimes when I shave. It comes and goes so I don't stress about it.  ATM I can't feel it at all, but I know it will be back.  I honestly can't say if it's benzo related, or just caused by stress.  I felt it was worth mentioning, however, as most of my benzo symptoms have been on the left side of my body.

I developed them all over. I get bumps on my forehead, chin, shoulders, lower back and chest, sometimes they are all at once and sometimes jump around. I'm sure it's withdrawal because I've never had anything remotely like this and they occur all at once, then go away all at once. Over the last two months they have come and gone with fairly regular frequency - usually getting really bad about 10pm and staying bad until 3am then going away. Sometimes the bumps are accompanied by hives but usually not. When I rub them or scratch them, they feel like tiny needles, similar to poison ivy. They haven't been quite as bad over the last two weeks. I'm hoping they won't come back.

Hi Donna,

I'm really sorry that u had to deal with shingles. They are so painful.

However, when scratched, they burn and this is the one distinction that can determine if itchy bumps are shingles.

If they bumps are bigger, they maybe hives.

My mom's are just bumps under the skin that itch, but don't burn.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

My mom's bumps do come and go and seem to always get worse at night.

She does take 1/2 a hydrocodone once per night for pain and I didn't know if the hydrocodone was causing it or the benzo withdrawal.

It sure sounds like benzo w/d.

I tried a bunch of different things and found that pure Shea Butter seems to help mine the most. I got some from i-herb.com for about $7.

I will have her try that.

  • 8 months later...

Finally, I think the itchy bumps on my mom's head are gone.

They started last january and have been relentless ever since, until a week ago when they all disappeared.

The itchiness is nearly gone as well. She itched all over her body too.

I hope by the 12 month benzo free mark in Jan, that all her symptoms drop.

I've had a lot of skin things, itch, bumps, etc. Started when I was still taking clonazepam. Thought it was bugs, at first - especially because I could feel them crawling on my neck. But there were no bugs. The crawling sensation is a delusion called 'formication' and is a well-known withdrawal symptom. So I've had to conclude that the bumps, the itching, and all that are also withdrawal symptoms, absent proof of some other cause. But one never know, do one? Maybe my kidneys are failing.
