Can someone help me with a VERY slow Taper off Remeron?

Hi,

I would like to ask for input from any members who have tapered off of Remeron.  Specifically, did you have difficulty tapering off of it, how did you taper off of it, and any recommendations or insight that you have with respect to this drug and how to get off of it.

I have been on Remeron since I jumped in January.  Initially it was helpful for sleep, for maybe the first week or so. I started out at 15 mg. and then in the second week of February, I decreased it to 3/4 of a pill x 10 days and then to 1/4 pill + 1/8 (roughly 10 mg) up until now.

It is difficult, if not impossible to tell whether or not it is increasing my anxiety.  My moderate to severe anxiety and panic attacks are intermittent in nature.  I believe it might cause emotional blunting - it is difficult to cry.  Again, this could be from w/d.  I believe that BB member Cnotr indicated that he went through a period where he felt unable to cry.  Believe it or not, I would like to have a good cry.

In any event, I would like to do a very SLOW taper and am thinking of getting a compounded Remeron suspension.  Evidently Remeron is only partially soluable in water and therefore needs to go into suspension.  I was thinking of 1 mg. every 2 weeks.

I know that it is not advisable to start or stop meds while in the midst of w/d, but it's not working for my sleep, may be increasing my anxiety overall.  It's just so hard to separate out what is causing what.  Thanks for any and all input.  :) Hugs, Klonkers

Hi klonkers,  just curios how sleep is on the remeron. I have been getting horrible nightmares lately with night sweats.  Not sure if it is withdrawal from benzos or the remeron.  Sorry a little off topic.

Hi Klonkers,

There is a great forum for folks struggling with AD's called survivingantidepressants.org.

Perhaps they can help you with a slow taper off Remeron.

Take care Klonkers.

klunker,

I made the suspension of Remeron in water and using a syringe, I took small proportional doses. Essentially a water titration. I decreased by 0.02 mg per day, I could not go any faster. It is stable in the freezer, I added vinegar to my suspension to make sure the bacteria would not grow while I kept it in the refrigerator.  I made a batch that was big enough to last the entire taper.

Hi Wellness,

Thank you so much for responding!  Well, the way I feel today, you certainly got my name right "klunker"!  lol

My doctor recommended a suspension and said I could easily make this at home as one or two of his other patients did the same, however he was not clear on the specifics.  He asked me to find out and let him know.  Would you be so kind as to describe the proportion of med to water (concentration?) Did you use a syringe, etc?  Thank you so much.  :) Hugs, Klonkers
