Kind of an off question but, I'll ask it.

When going through withdrawal, I know a lot of us have experienced elevated heart rate. I was at 120 tonight while trying to have sex(Even when I was minimally doing any work). I got dizzy and could not get aroused. Is that a W/D symptom? I'm sorry to ask a silly question as such. I'm just with someone of course, and its kind of off we can't do anything to express anything right now. I don't think it's inappropriate to ask. Apologize if it is.

Hi

Of course you can ask anything you like on here within rules of course :)

Your question is a very valid one.

Maybe, if you look at sex as an activity, you will see that it involves excitation, and maybe that excitation also raised your heartbeat.

I have experienced rapid heart thumping in my withdrawal and vertigo is also a symptom of withdrawal.

You could get a medical check to rule anything out, especialy if you have heart disease or at risk of it. I am not trying to scare you, I am just saying it to rule things out.

I know its inconvenient if you pay for your treatment, but it will give you peace of mind.

I hope this helps

take care x

Hello darkskywaves,

I saw your questions and put together some information that may be helpful. I am the type of person who seeks to know what is happening and why, it brings comfort to me. I hope it does the same for you.

I could not get aroused

Sexuality

Some people find that their withdrawal affects their level of sexual interest, swinging from none to too much. Desire can vanish completely – for months, even years. When people do have sex, out of love and consideration for their partners, or need for intimacy, they often find that it is completely exhausting.

Symptoms from A to Z

Libido loss: loss of interest in sexual intercourse, inability to become aroused

Sexual dysfunction: loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, loss of interest in sexual intercourse

“The Ashton Manual” by Heather Ashton, 2002

Heart and lungs. “Palpitations, pounding heart, rapid pulse, flushing, sweating, and breathlessness are usual accompaniments of panic attacks, but may occur without panics. They do not signify heart or lung disease but are simply the expression of an overactive autonomic nervous system. Slow deep breathing and relaxation, as described under panic attacks, can do much to control these symptoms. Do not worry about them: they would be accepted as normal if you were running for a bus, and will do no more harm than if you really were!”

Symptoms A to Z

Heart: palpitations, irregular beats, thumping, beating loudly, feels as if jumping out of chest cavity

“The Accidental Addict” by Di Poritt & Di Russell, 2006

Heart and Pulse

“Palpitations, racing hearts, missed beats, and heart arrhythmia can start soon after taking the first benzo. Sleep may be disturbed when the natural heart rhythm is punctuated by missed beats and a racing pulse.

Palpitations and racing hearts

“These are especially unnerving, because they might mean imminent death. Most people can’t think, can’t function-all they can do is panic.”

Heart arrhythmia, thumps and irregular beats

“I had heart thumps and irregular beats. It is so good to be well again-I play golf now without any problem.”

Blood pressure

“A minority of people develop high blood-pressure while on benzos and when they come off.”

I got dizzy

“Benzo-Wise, A Recovery Companion” by Bliss Johns, 2010

Symptoms A to Z

Dizziness/Balance problems: unsteady on feet, feeling as if drunk, room ‘spinning’ even when sitting or lying.

Balance problems/Dizziness: feeling unsteady on feet, room ‘spinning’ even when witting of lying, feeling drunk

“The Accidental Addict” by Di Porritt & Di Russell, 2006

“Dizziness is a very common problem. People might feel slightly dizzy all the time, or have sudden attacks of severe dizziness.”

Off-balance

“Even sitting in a chair or lying in bed, people could feel off-balance. Feelings of uncertainty about where to put their feet makes walking hard.”

‘The ground is moving’

“People don’t actually fall, but they think they will because the ground does not feel either firm or solid.”

Professor Ashton, “The Ashton Manual”, 2002

Problems with balance.  “Some people during benzodiazepine withdrawal report feeling unsteady on their feet; sometimes they feel they are being pushed to one side or feel giddy (dizzy), as if things were going round and round. An important organ in controlling motor stability and maintaining equilibrium is a part of the brain called the cerebellum. This organ is densely packed with GABA and benzodiazepine receptors and is a prime site of action of benzodiazepines. It may take some time for the cerebellar systems to re-stabilize after benzodiazepine withdrawal and the symptoms can last until this process is complete. Exercises, such as standing on one leg, first with eyes open, then with eyes closed, can speed recovery.”

I hope this is helpful,

Summer
