I have been taking clonazepam since 2006.  I saw my doctor last week and she thinks that I am having tolerance withdrawal symptoms.  I have been taking 0.125 mg a day at bed time for the past 4+ years.  My doctor wants me to just stop taking this amount cold turkey.  I am afraid that I will experience severe withdrawal symptoms (possibly even life threatening seizures) if I do this.  I need help to find a solution.

Hey WishToBeFree,

Welcome to BenzoBuddies. It seems that most have had success with a slow, sound taper. It's not really possible to know how your body will react, but cold turkey can be very unpleasant and isn't really recommended. Whatever you decide I hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Hi Wish,

Just in general when it comes to benzos, it would seem to me if you're having tolerance withdrawals, you're going to have a greater withdrawal if you try to go off cold turkey.  Have you thought about a schedule to taper off slowly?  The rule of thumb is roughly cutting 5% to 10% every two weeks to minimize any withdrawal symptoms.
