Should I jump?

[Ha...]

Recommended Posts

I've been tapering from 1-2mg Clonazepam for 9 months, and have been at .083mg/day for 3 weeks.  The w/d symptoms were worst around .25mg, and I haven't had any severe waves in the last 2 weeks.  I could still cut pills into .0625mg, but I'm wondering if I should just go for it.

For people that have tapered directly off Clonazepam, what was the size of your last dose?

I didn't taper off Klonopin but jumped from the lorazepam equivalent of .0625mg K.  I think that if you can go lower before jumping, I would.  Just to be cautious.  Congrats on getting so close to being done with your taper.  I know you will be glad to have this phase behind you.  ;)

Yeah, I'd go for that one last cut to 0.0625, stay there a couple weeks, then jump.

Or at that point, after a couple weeks on 0.0625, instead of jumping, you could start stretching out the interval between doses, until you're taking it only once every four days. That's what I did. I call it "climbing down" instead of jumping.

But I think it makes sense to cut once more from your present dose, just to be safe, because actually, the taper is short. Recovery is long.

Hello Half-life,

I saw your question and put together some information that may be helpful.

Getting off the last tablet:

Ashton recommends going to 0.5mg of Valium that would be the equivalent of 0.025 mg of Klonopin. So, 0.03125mg or maybe 0.015625mg should be low enough to step off and become benzo free. Here is the reference below:

The Ashton Manual

Chapter II

Getting off the last tablet: Stopping the last few milligrams is often viewed as particularly difficult. This is mainly due to fear of how you will cope without any drug at all. In fact, the final parting is surprisingly easy. People are usually delighted by the new sense of freedom gained. In any case the 1mg or 0.5mg diazepam per day which you are taking at the end of your schedule is having little effect apart from keeping the dependence going. Do not be tempted to spin out the withdrawal to a ridiculously slow rate towards the end (such as 0.25mg each month). Take the plunge when you reach 0.5mg daily; full recovery cannot begin until you have got off your tablets completely. Some people after completing withdrawal like to carry around a few tablets with them for security "just in case", but find that they rarely if ever use them.

I hope this is helpful,

Summer
