Hair loss- wd or thyroid problem

Hi BB's,

 

I'm experiencing lots of hair loss, even my eyebrows and sideburns. Is this a normal wd sx or could this be related to a thyroid problem caused by wd.

 

Should I just accept it as part of withdrawal or have some blood work done?

 

Can you treat thyroid conditions while going through wd?

 

If it is just part of wd is biotin safe to take and does it help? Any other supplements to help hair loss that are safe during wd.

 

I had great hair- one more thing taken from me for taking benzo's.

I have had a great deal of hair loss. I did get my thyroid checked and it was okay. For me, it was a symptom.

Stress and withdrawal can cause hair to fall out, but so can a poorly functioning thyroid.  I am having thyroid problems as of late (no hair loss yet), and I'm of the opinion that it was caused by taking benzos.  All this said, if you have the time, ask your doctor to order some blood work for you.  Be sure to mention the hair loss and to do a thorough thyroid panel - TSH, T4, Free T4, Free T3, etc.

I think this is quite typical, the hair loss, My hair during my c/t was falling out, it was so scary.

Alot on here have said they had the same problem.

I dont have any bald spots just very thing. Yes, another thing due to benzos

My hubby's hair loss has been awful!  He had a beautiful thick head of hair.  Now it's like whisps of straw.  He has T tests, all ok.  It is wds for him.  Pattylu

I had a lot of hair loss at the end of my taper and when I jumped off.  I did have my thyroid tested and it was fine also.  My thyroid has kind of been all over the map the last 1 1/2 years but I know that benzo use does disrupt all of our systems. I have to go back every 6 months for a recheck, my doc and I are loathe to treat anything until I am completely healed.

Try to get that checked out if you think it might be more than withdrawal. Always better to be on the safe side

Hair dull, lifeless and thin here!  No thyroid problems for me, just w/d...but I hear it comes back!    But as shaneb said, better to get it checked out if you're not sure.

Someone has to chime in how they or a BBuddy lost a bunch of hair then grew it back afterwards. I need some positive vibes to grow my hair back.

I've read tons of stories of hair loss during withdrawal, it happened to me too but it's all grown back. I also have a thyroid condition and have no problems treating it even through my worst withdrawal.

Don't worry, it's all temporary.
