Guest [Pf...]
I had been doing quite well, but started to get symptomatic in late January, and it stayed like that for a while, and then in the last couple of weeks, I have generally slept poorly, and feel agitated. I assumed this was all benzo related. But I also realized that I have really been eating a lot of fish. We always did eat a fair amount, 2 or 3 times a week, but for whatever reason, in the last few weeks, I have been eating a lot more -- basically due to a change in routine. In the last 3 weeks, I probably have been averaging eating fish 5 times a week. I wonder if I have ingested too much mercury, which can cause anxiety etc. I am going to call my doctor to see if they can test for that. I don't think that I have some sort of deadly mercury poisoning, but wonder if my levels are high, and whether that has rev'd things up. I know that a lot of people here try to get omega 3s, and wonder how many eat a diet high in fish. I am not sure how much it takes to cause excess levels, but I have read that with certain fish (like tuna and some other common fishes), several times a week is too much. Also, someone on here mentionied having a problem after taking Chinese herbs. In researching the mercury, I read that chinese herbal treatments can contain excess mercury. So with a sensative system, or really any system, I wonder if the herbal remedy could cause a serious problem
[WT...]
Hi, Pfeff, I will tell you in short my experience with mercury poisoning a few years back. I began eating a lot of fish because of weightlifting, mainly salmon and tuna as I heard they were the best for what I was doing. Well after about 3 months of this (and at the time I didn't put 2 and 2 together) I started noticing blurry vision, and I couldn't sleep well. I had always slept well, and normally had great vision, so I was completely amiss as to what was happening. After not much longer, I started noticing bad headaches, nausea, and depression -- that's when I got a blood test and found the bad news. I discontinued eating the fish after that, and the headaches and nausea went away, but my vision stayed bad, and I kept insomnia. Later on, almost 2 yeas later, I went on a plant based diet, and only drank water. I had almond milk with my cereal, and avoided all oils. After two months of this, my vision cleared up and actually got better than it ever had been in my entire life -- my sleep returned to normal, and all symptoms were gone. I don't remember having anxiety from it, but it is possible I did experience it on some low level. I hope this helps in some way.
