It's Déjà Vu Time

It's déjà vu time for me - been there done that.

This is not a particularly happy post and I have made no postings for some time as I battled

with health issues and a brutal tolerance withdrawal. As from today the benzos are history

and remainder flushed. They had become very toxic so no choice now but to forge ahead.

I succumbed to rescue doses and eventual reinstatement due to momentary seizures. This

beginning after five weeks off which devastated me. Not big ones just very very minor but

at night sheer murder for sleep. Plus all the other symptoms 31 to date.

On the recovery discovery road there was good and bad. First the good:

Homeopath cured my sensitive teeth problem in one go, a problem plaguing me over 40

years. Can now rinse in cold water even in winter. Tossed out my fluoridated sensodyne

toothpaste. Yay!

Coincidental discovery of a herbal product which completely stabilised my wifes GI system,

left her with well being and has been scientifically tested at Leeds Hospital (biggest

teaching hospital in the UK) and shown to have anti-cancer properties. What a win and I

have a copy of the study report.

The bad:

Discovered like many before me that no naturopathic, homeopathic or herbalist treatment or

any supplement can help with withdrawal. So what else is news!

Diagnosed with severe aproaching critical aortic stenosis requiring immediate open heart

surgery but a very rare complication prevents this. Prognosis dire (remove the 'r' from dire

for outcome), time frame uncertain.

Seizures reappeared at 1mg mark and now on 1200mg gabapentin to supress them. Traded

one med. for another less sinister one and it helps a lot with anxiety and sleeplessness

though blitzes the brain. Hah - Neurontin should be renamed Morontin. At least the benzos

are gone. There is clinical evidence though that gabapentin can assist benzo withdrawal-

Benzos need a skull and crossbones on every bottle with warnings like on packets of

smokes such as:

The road to hell is paved with these pills

Abandon hope all ye who take these pills

These pills are your one way ticket to hell

With these pills you will dread the days and fear the nights

and so forth.

So here I am having crossed the foothills, feeling like a loser kindled and krazed, off at a

shambling mumbling lurch up the steepest of mountains on legs of putty with a brain

somewhere in orbit. Sorry for the rave. However I wish myself good luck and bless you all.

hahaha loved your story.

I wish i would have just kept smoking and drinking what like you said with all the warning signs I surely couldnt be worse off that taking crap that affects ones brain so substantially.  Hey my bozo pharmacist didnt even give me a brochure about the stuff i didnt even know it was addictive and boy when i took that xanax i cried and cried for weeks should have known it was crap never made me feel good in the first place . You know what the dumb thing is i always said after having a severe reaction to ssri years ago that i would never ever take anything that affects my brain again and you know what i did so who is the dummy.  But like my mum says Desperate people do desperate things and trust me i was desperate i thought i was going crazy.  Anyway take care in your journey.

By the way can you tell me what you mean by the benzos became toxic like what happened to you.

I surely hope you feel better soon.

Lizzy

may need to put a footnote in and say was joking about the drinking and smoking before anyone says anything was just my warped sense of humour.

Thanks for your kind wishes tinfoilkathy pattylu and ld1 it's much appreciated.

By toxic I mean that is the stage when you reach relative tolerance and more of the drug simply makes you feel worse with no relief and necessitates an even longer withdrawal as cold turkey doesn't work either. It means unable to stabilise sick when taking, sick when tapering - a very unpleasant combo and still the long haul after benzo freedom. Talk about a euphemism.

aha now i get you.  same thing happening for me.  I got off from 45 to 0 in 18 days well off course i was feeling like death.  then i took 2.5 to stop the dreadful stomach anxiety then the doctor put me up to 5 and i was so sick had to go down to 2.5 then i just cut .5 for 18 days and we so sick i put myself back to 3 and 4 to no avail just felt dreadful so ive settled at 2.5 does nothing at all so i guess we are alike in that respect.  how much better r u though in comparison i know you are still doing it so tough.

Lizzy - I'm not better but am actually worse. Not worse than the odd particular day in tapering when my head was a pressure cooker but I have no choice now but to press on. This is what I expected and any improvement is a long way off. Only the gabapentin is stopping a meltdown as I was on the benzos far too long albeit at a very low dose. I admire you for a rapid taper and it seems to be working for you. Well done.

Hi Wa Sappening,

Congratulations on being Benzo Free.  I hope that you will level out soon and feel better.  Wishing you healing.

I have very sensitive teeth since tolerance started setting in about 6 or more years ago.  Could you maybe share what you are using to cure your sensitive teeth?  I would love to see if it might help mine.  Thank you.

Again, Best Wishes,

Lily

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Lilyagain,

Thanks for your good wishes and sorry about the slow reply but I have been away.

My sensitive tooth issue is permanently cured and I do not have to use anything at all. The homeopathic treatment was a detox of PALLADIUM and nickel believe it or not. Palladium is a precious metal and we are all exposed to it constantly because it is used in car catalytic converters. Nickel is in coins and jewellery and both may be in dental work. Each treatment was a one off taking only seconds. I was very sceptical of course but it WORKED. I am still amazed but don't know how to pass on direct information. Can only suggest that you investigate a reliable practitioner and consult. Note my sensitivity was not benzo related.

Cheers,

Wa

Thank you Wa,

I hope you are doing well and feel okay!  Do let us know when you feel like it!

I appreciate your response to my tooth question.  I think my sensitivity is Benzo related, so I will tuck this information away and consider it more if my teeth don't become more normal after the rest of my healing comes.  That is going to be awhile as I am still tapering though!  No worries as it is some better as I get lower in my dose.

Thank you and wishing you more healing,

:smitten:

Hi Lilyagain,

Thanks again for your good wishes and I sure wish you the same. You are being wonderfully careful in your taper and I am sorry you are not 'breezing through' if anyone ever does.

I am certain your attitude and care will hit paydirt and you will be skipping again before me.

All the very best for your recovery.

Wa
